Tavern on Church was buzzing the night my wife and I stopped in, thanks to a concert happening at the nearby Kia Center. Despite the crowd, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately upon walking in—an encouraging start to the evening.
Our waitress arrived quickly to take a drink order and informed us that the menu was accessible via QR code. We decided to share two appetizers: the Korean pork ribs and the arancini.
This is where the experience began to unravel. After about 20 minutes of waiting, our pork ribs finally arrived—but only after the waitress had first delivered an identical order to the table next to us by mistake. Once corrected, the ribs made their way to our table. They were decent, but not memorable enough to justify the wait or the price.
The arancini, however, was a much bigger issue. We waited nearly 40 minutes for it to arrive, and it showed up just 10 minutes before the concert was scheduled to start, putting us in a stressful rush. Temperature-wise, the dish was inconsistent at best. The arancini itself was lukewarm, while the corn chutney underneath was piping hot—and honestly, the best part of the plate, with a nice kick of spice. There was some sort of drizzle on top of the arancini, but it was cool and didn’t add much in terms of flavor or cohesion. Overall, the dish felt poorly executed and badly timed.
When the bill arrived, I adjusted the tip from the suggested 20% down to a lower amount, reflecting both the long waits and the overall experience. We paid quickly and left due to time constraints. Later, when I received the emailed receipt, I noticed something troubling: a 20% gratuity had already been applied, and the receipt appeared to prompt for an additional tip on top of that. My adjusted tip ended up pushing the total gratuity close to 25% on a meal that, in my opinion, warranted closer to 10%.
This left a very sour final impression. While the food was okay, the prices were high for what we received, the timing was poorly managed, and the gratuity structure felt misleading.
Bottom line: Tavern on Church may have a convenient location and lively atmosphere, but diners—especially those heading to an event—should use caution. Pay close attention to how tips are applied to your bill, and don’t expect quick service, even for appetizers.

Smash burgers, no. Frozen beef patties reheated with no attempt at a smash, waffle fries were better but overfried and dry. 6 wings, not fried enough and sauce was sketchy. 2nd attempt at the pretzel was at least hot unlike the first version. Essentially no better or cheaper than eating at the arena, so find another place or wait. Service was fine.

The food is not that great parmesan fries not worth extra money. Italian sandwich bread is majority of meal meat tasted old. Wings over breaded. BBQ sandwich my son said it did not have enough barbeque. The nachos and brownie I like the best

Big storm has a vast beer base before moving into this gem of a location. Beward on game days (soccer, bball, etc) this place will be packed. Most others days should be fine, lots of outdoor space, indoor area can be open air. Lots of beer options plus a good food menu.

Stopped here for lunch. JD was our bartender. Super cool guy. Great recommendations! My wife and I shared the grouper sandwich, which was delicious. We drank the Hurricane Hunter IPA twice, Surplus Honey Citrus Ale and the Bromosa. All great beers! Definitely check this place out! We will be back!

This place has great beer! You gotta check it out. I went here on a Wednesday night and tasted about half of their beers. They offer 20 of their own beers on tap and they serve good food as well. They have some great sours, ipas, and stouts. My recommendations are the Bro Mosa IPA, Chocolate Cherry Stout, and Pineapple Raspberry Sour. I also got to talk in depth with one of their very knowledgeable and awesome bartenders about the brewery scene in Orlando and what big storm brewery has to offer. They will soon be selling big storm merch as well and be brewing beer at this location, whereas right now all their beers come from their headquarters in Clearwater. Definitely give this place a shot. You will not be disappointed.
Also, if you read to the end and found this helpful, please give my review a thumbs up to help me on my journey to being a Level 8 google guide.

The food was excellent and the customer service was even better! The food took a little longer to come out (not too bad) because of a system glitch and the manager and waiter were extremely kind and attentive. They even gave a couple extra beers for the game. Would definitely go back!
