We walked by this spot on several trips to Charlottesville and had been wanting to check it out so we stopped by to have a quick drink. We didn’t order food, but checked out the menu. It was much more French than I expected. We sat at the bar, which was very charming—actually the entire restaurant was charming. I really loved the space. We had the special old fashioned and a cosmo. They were both ok, but nothing special. After seeing the menu, I’m not sure I would choose to eat here. I’m sure if you like French food, it’s very good.

Four of us had brunch today. No decaf coffee, no chicken and biscuits. Had to hunt up my own cream and sweetener. Lobster roll was on tough sour dough instead of soft bread, lobster was tough, biggest flavor was tarragon. Total fail. Duck hash was loaded with onions but I don’t think it said so on the menu. It was flavorless otherwise. They gave our son salad with his burger without ever asking what he wanted with it. Not salad, I can assure you. Nice atmosphere but food and service were a fail.

I’ve never been to a restaurant that when you ask for salt and pepper, they bring you a huge empty pepper shake and kosher salt in a little bowl, so that speaks volumes. Lovely restaurant, very cozy. Nice friendly staff. Stopped for brunch with my daughter. Their bacon is superb! Generous amount of perfectly fried bacon, their eggs are extremely well cooked, their greens are nice and fresh, but that’s about it. Mediocre seasoning, bland food, and expensive for what it is. Their duck confit was average, not worth $17, sorry… hollandaise sauce was lacking, the potatoes are plain, boring, and have no seasoning and lots of grease. At least add some salt. A little piece of bread on the side won’t kill you guys either, but i guess that’s why you sell bread and butter for $5 as part of your menu. My croissant with egg and cheese was a sweet sugary croissant filled with a nice terragon swiss cheese omelet, perfectly cooked soft and buttery omelet, great bacon but the sugary bread was way too much, even with the salty bacon and greens. I must say that this place could do much better, they just need more courage and less greed. Spices won’t kill your customers if you guys learn how to use them. Invest some money in having decent S&P shakers. If you have high prices make sure they are worth it. The plates where you serve your food are way too small. It’s even uncomfortable to maneuver with your fork and knife.

We hosted a farewell brunch on a Saturday morning after our wedding at Tavern and Grocery and it was so perfect! The brunch food was amazing (I got so many comments from our guests about it), the bartenders and staff were so kind and attentive, and it just so happened that Berto the guitarist was playing live music, which was the icing on the cake. The historic space is so cool and with the rental of the main floor they even let us spread out to the outdoor tables since the weather was so nice.

Had a fantastic date night meal with my husband. The hostess promptly sat us upon arrival for our reservation. The wine and lemon drop shots we ordered were amazing. We ordered duck spring rolls and a copia and a flounder dish, all of which were outstanding. Perfect evening with excellent attentive service.

We had the best time here! It was our first time in Virginia and we are staying at the Marriot. The tavern is beautiful!! The decor is stunning. The young gentleman who sat us was very attentive and promptly brought us water and coffee (coffee was delicious) and our server Hayley was absolutely wonderful!! It was busy but she was not missing a beat. I recommend the eggs scramble and the croissant sandwich. Thank you so much!

I was next door getting work done on my sleeve, and I was starving! While on a break I ran next door for some food. Super friendly staff, quick service and to be honest I was just expecting a “regular” croissant breakfast sandwich. This was anything but! Eggs were so light and flavorful, bacon thick, perfectly cooked. I will definitely be back to experience other items on their brunch menu! Highly recommend.

Everything we ordered were delicious. Especially the fries. We ordered second fries. The service was excellent. Only funny thing was that there was a small bouncy ball came from nowhere and hit the wall and dropped on one of us. About 1-2 mins later another small bouncy ball hit the restaurant window next to the couple sit not far from us. A waiter reported to the manager and the manager called the police and reported the incident. Like the restaurant very much and highly recommended.

We waited for an hour between waiting for the hostess to appear, waiting to be seated, waiting for our server, waiting for our food…. Only to be told “something happened in the kitchen” and they lost our order. They were severely understaffed, everyone was waiting for all manner of service, and there was no communication. We cancelled our order and left. A terrible shame because their food looked great.
