Newly remodeled, the much airier Tavern is all about art, music, and above all great food. Open for lunch and soon to include evening dining, the Tavern adds a distinctly Mexican/Pacific Coast set of flavors to the local fine dining scene. The Tavern was formerly Known as the Wild Note Cafe.
Airy, artsy music-themed bistro serving up globally influenced sliders, salads & more.

The food and the location were great. The only thing I didn’t like was the server’s attentiveness. I’m not someone who needs constant attention while eating, but she wouldn’t come to our table for long periods of time, and we would run out of water or condiments and sometimes had to go inside to ask for them. We were seated outside, and she was almost always inside.

This place was a great place to stop in for a quick bite before a concert or while shopping. The service was great and the food came quickly and was tasty. The blackened shrimp salad was really good. Price was good for what you get. Kind of cool when you go to use the bathroom here you can hear sound testing going on at the Belly Up since they are connected.

Stopped in before a comedy show next door at The Belly Up to grab a bite. Wasn’t expecting much other than early entry into the venue which was a perk to eating here….my wife and I were VERY happy we made that decision. The food was delicious and the service was great. I highly recommend you visit this place before a comedy show, or just in the area. The spaghetti was delicious and my wife got the filet which was very good too. Since I’m not a drinker, I had the coconut non-alcohol drink which was VERY good. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! We are riding the motorcycles up there today again for a bite to eat.

What an absolute pleasure discovering this place. The server Joseph is amazing, I went with my family whom none of us had been there before,
And each of us, including my 7 year old nephew-
All were thoroughly surprised with how fantastic our food was.
I told Joseph none of us had ever been there before, and asked him what he recommended. He said “The herb crusted salmon dish we have has been our best seller for over 15 years.” I can’t remember if he said “15 years” or “25 years” but either way I was instantly sold on that. My sister ordered the mahi mahi tacos, and my nephew ordered the chicken fingers off the kids menu.
Now look, I reeeaaally love great food. Good food is awesome, but great food? Is such a genuine pleasure. I also love salmon too so, I can be quite particular on salmon dishes.
But yo this salmon dish is GREAT. I’m an HB local,
And we took the Pacific surfliner to Solana Beach for my mom’s birthday, and the tavern is a 5 minute walk from the Solana surfliner station. We kind of rolled the dice on this place like “Meehh, it looks chill, let’s try it.”
And maaaann. I’m still thinking about that delicious salmon dish…
If you are a local to the Solana Beach area,
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. No, do me a favor. Warm a foolish man’s heart and enjoy this dish for me. Grab those lemon wedges they give you with the dish, squeeze those out on that beautiful sauce, scoop that up with the lightly buttered Israeli cous cous-
Just marinate in that for a brief moment.
Then,
Look at the sexy salmon. Whaaattt aaaa looker. Oh- wait- she’s looking at you. You sly dog. Now, take that fork and just, dive into that salmon. The flaaavvoorrr. Mmmmm.
Then,
Take a picture. Send it to me. Let me live through you. That salmon, my muse of 2026… All the way in Solana, swimming without a care on the beach… Shakespeare was so accurate in his drama of saying: “parting is such sweet sorrow.”
Oh my salmon,
Soon my darling.
I’ll come back for you.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality here! We only had the seared achiote ahi (which I personally didn’t like that much) and the lobster tacos, which were very yummy. Honestly, I’d be happy without the tacos, as the beans, Spanish rice and tomato x lobster stew were outstanding by themselves.
Would come back, especially before a nice event at the belly up next door!

Haven’t been here in years. Eat and drink here before heading next door to Belly Up for a concert.
I had a glass of crown and fried calamari. The calamari was yummy. Not chewy which is great. Also the edamame was good. Really flavorful seasoning.
Service was also good. Forgot her name but she was really nice and kind.

Ate here before a concert at the BellyUp. Chips and guacamole were a tasty app we got. My wife had the fish tacos, which arrive deconstructed and are very good. I tried the Ahi Tuna Sliders with truffle fries. The tuna was a little overcooked but the meal overall was great.

My first time at this cute little cafe in Solana Beach. I was there to visit my niece and she took me to the design district there. She lives near there and had also never tried this restaurant. The server and hostess were very nice and attentive. The food was delicious! I had the brie stuffed hamburger with mushrooms & a port wine reduction sauce. It was amazing! The slightly sweet taste if the sauce worked well with the savory very juicy & very fresh ground beef burger! She had the filet mignon sliders & my daughter had the Turkey sandwich. I would definitely recommend this place and will go back when I am back in town. Also the prices for the quality and amount of food were reasonable!#eatoutside #drinkoutside #casuallunchspot #independentrestaurant #bestburger
