Today I visited Tasu Asian Bistro, also known as Matsumoto Craft Ramen, in Cary. The restaurant opened at the end of September and is located in the same plaza as Shake Shack. It keeps the old restaurant name but now has a new owner — a Japanese chef who serves authentic, house-made ramen and gyoza.

When you enter, you place your order at the front counter, and the staff will bring your food to the table. The server was very nice and friendly.

The gyoza came in the traditional Japanese style — connected in one piece, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and absolutely delicious. We also tried the takoyaki, which was tasty as well.

For the main dishes, we ordered tonkotsu ramen, tonkotsu miso ramen, and chicken chashu curry rice. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful but not overly salty like many other ramen shops. I finished the entire bowl and didn’t feel thirsty afterward — a good sign of well-balanced seasoning!

It’s exciting to see an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant open in the Triangle area. We’ll definitely be back to try more dishes.

We really enjoyed our first experience here! The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was amazing! We got the Tonkatsu Ramen, Tonkatsu Miso Ramen, Curry Tonkatsu, and the Holoween Special for our meals. All were tasty and well cooked. We added the House Spice for some extra kick. The Gyoza was made in house and was delicious as well. We will be back!

We love our Ramen. Within Tasu is Matsumoto Ramen. There was a pop sign by the front door and that is the only way we knew it was in Tasu. The place looks awesome. We didn’t try any sushi just had gyoza, takuyaki, and ramen. The ramen flavor were tonkatsu and tonkatsu miso.

The tonkatsu had a better flavor than the tonkatsu miso, the eggs were cold, the meat was cold, the broth was super hot (in which how we love our ramen), the noodles were good and the garnish with the ramen were good.

The gyoza was good but weird. The presentation looked good but they were all stuck together. Not what we were expecting. The sauce had a nice flavor but was on the sweeter side with a mild tart to it.

The takuyaki was hot inside and the flavor was good. Which was great but there weren’t alot of bonito flakes on the outside, so it didn’t look alive (when it’s so hot that it makes the bonito flakes move). They garnished it with some greens. This really didn’t match with the takuyaki.

We came up from Jacksonvle to get a car and found this place. We’ll probably give it another try. The place was pretty beat in side but it was a late Thursday cold night that we went.

Posted 3 photos forgot to take a pic of the takuyaki.

PSA: This is a brand new restaurant as of September 22, 2025–a craft ramen place with a Japanese chef. I have been to the previous restaurant before and thought it to be just fine. This new ramen restaurant is leaps and bounds better and is the best ramen I have had in the Triangle. It might be the best I’ve had outside of Asia, even after living in Boston and Philly for a few years. The flavors and textures are delicious and authentic, quite unlike the oftentimes one-dimensional salt-bomb you get at a lot of Asian fusion restaurants. The noodles are absolutely incredible. They are freshly made in-house, and this highly elevates the ramen. Ramen is my husband’s least favorite form of noodle soup, but he cleaned the bowl to every last noodle and drop of broth and declared that we must be back soon.
We shared an app of chicken karaage, my husband had the chicken ramen, and I got the tonkotsu ramen. Everything was fantastic, even the chicken. I was previously a hater of chicken-focused ramens as they are usually lesser in flavor and richness, but I tried some of his and to my surprise, it was just as tasty and flavorful as mine, and the chicken melted in the mouth.
The space is the same as the old Tasu, but now with cute Japanese-themed decor. The service was very friendly, and we got our food quickly despite this being only day 5 of their service. Note that right now (not sure if they plan on changing this), you order at the counter and water is self-service.
We immediately told our family to check out this place, and now you know to do so too! Enjoy!

This is our new Asian restaurant that opened under the name of Craft Ramen. The prices are mostly between $15 and $20 (I think the listed prices are for the old place). We weren’t fans of the prior Asian restaurant that was here but the current one is fantastic! Definitely give it a try! The prices are mid-range and the food is excellent! We got the tonkatsu ramen, one spicy and one mild. As a matter of fact we’re going back tonight. Update we got the home made Ramen again and also got a fresh dumpling appetizer. This place is so so good!

This is a whole new Tasu y’all!! The karaage was next level crunch and juiciness that’s hard to get right. And the pork chashu almost melted in my mouth! Ramen was solid and I’m looking forward to trying the curry next.

I just wish they had changed their name when the new chef came so they didn’t have to dig their way out of a low score here. Everything was absolutely delicious and much better than previous visits. New chef is everything right!

Lovely staff!! Great food. We got the tonkatsu ramen and curry karaage. The broth for the ramen was very umami and the curry sauce was rich and paired nicely w the crispy chicken. When you come in – there’s a bunch of snacks and drinks and I found a figurine I’ve been hunting for a while. Def glad we stumbled upon such a cute restaurant.

This place deserves more stars. We got to come as guests for a soft opening / menu tasting as well as watching how to make the noodles with RDUEats!
The ramen was flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked to the right amount of chewiness.
The service was impeccable. Everyone was super welcoming and very attentive! The owners were also very interactive with their guests.
We loved the experience and hope to come back soon!

We love this place! By far the best ramen I’ve had in NC. The staff is always so friendly. My children love coming here, the claw machines are a big hit and they’re only .25 so they can play over and over again. They also love the ramen. It’s so flavorful. My daughter commented multiple times that “this is delicious!” I highly recommend it.
