These are legendary and important part of Des Moines cuisine. You can’t say the best places to eat in Des Moines and leave Tastys off the list. If you are coming into town go get an Original flour taco and throw some of their house sauce on it and tell me I’m wrong. I’ll eat 4 more right now. Update: it’s still amazing

Food is always good. I usually get the original flour taco and cheese curds. The new location is very spacious and clean. They always do a great job.

The food here is pretty good. I had asked for meat and cheese only in my taco and they left the beans as well. The taco was good and the white queso is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend their white queso.

A true Des Moines tradition. The best tacos you’re likely to find anywhere. Get the original flour tacos. Two per adult, one per child, and maybe an extra if you’re particularly hungry.

Tasty Tacos was phenomenal. I was in the mood for tacos and this spot answered the call. Great service, fast. The tacos have a unique, puffed appearance that is light in texture. I tried the beef, chicken and pork tacos and was satisfied with them all, but the chicken was my fav. Lots of menu choices available and I intend to try them during future visits.

A Des Moines institution; you must try the “original flour taco” really the best thing on the menu. This is a local, family run chain of tex mex fast food restaurants. They expanded over the last ten years to the point that they sell the taco seasoning and hot sauce/salsa in Hy-Vee the local grocery stores. What makes a tasty taco is the filling, a mixture of meat, beans, and seasoning. Topped with shredded cheddar cheese, add some of their spicy salsa for a crunchy tasty taco. I would say not a place for vegan type food. Update 10/2025. It has moved to a new location across the street. Still delicious!

Our first visit was today. The best part was the food – I liked both the Chicken Corn Taco and Chicken Wrap (served with smokey BBQ sauce). The taste was great for both of them and both were served with generous portions of cheese. The chips were good, but the guacamole was average at best to my taste.
Beyond the food, be prepared for an average fast-food experience with no table service. You wait in line to place your order at the counter, then wait for your number to be called and pick up your food at the counter. The restaurant was clean but basic and the men’s rest room appeared to have no heat…was very cold on this cold day.

Tasty Tacos is a Des Moines Staple!!!
The original flour taco is the best in my opinion. It’s always Fresh, hot and their sauce is incredible! Staff is excellent and you’ll never believe how many tables they turn!
You can be lined up at the door, but the line moves swiftly and a table will always open up… it’s like Ma
I make sure to stop here every time an anywhere near Des Moines!

We came here for a work meeting around lunch time and this place is really busy! They offer a lot seating, house salsa on the tables and a condiments station. The lady taking the orders seemed pretty irritated but everyone has bad days or goes to work when they don’t want to so it didn’t bother me.
I ordered the chicken tacos and my friend told me to just order two because they are fairly large and she is right! The fluffy soft taco was beyond AMAZING!!!!
Loaded with toppings and a great price of 3.75 per taco. Delicious food and I will be back.

This is not your ordinary taco! The soft tortilla, seasoned meat, and generous cheese make it amazingly delicious. House taco sauce makes it as hot as you please. Lots of other options too, but I’m stuck on the taco after 12 years. Don’t worry if the line seems long during the lunch rush. They crank out the orders quick enough to get you back to work on time.
