Our first and last visit. We absolutely loved the food, but wound up with food poisoning.
The woman at the counter was lovely. She recommended a few items for us to try, and they were excellent selections. We especially loved the steak enchilada, and the original flour taco.
My wife claimed the hot sauce was the best she’s ever had, so we bought a large $5 bottle on the way out the door. Delicious!
Unfortunately, we both woke up in the night with stomach issues- and by the following morning, we had full on symptoms of food poisoning. I won’t go into details, except to say that it ruined the remainder of our weekend.
We’re so disappointed, because the initial experience was excellent! If they would practice proper food hygiene, I’m sure this issue could be easily resolved.

I’m not from around here but wanted to try something local to Des Moines. I went 3 days in a row trying different things while staying at a nearby hotel. For starters, the place smells like backed up sewage inside. I enjoyed my meal the first night, the original flour taco is probably the best bet. The steak was very dry and not that great, the pork wasn’t my favorite. The 2nd night I had another pork flour taco and after 2 bites I noticed a weird smell and taste. The pork was absolutely rancid, luckily I didn’t get sick. For whatever reason I went back again to get another original, it was pretty good. In the future I’d stick with that. Service was pretty good. Atmosphere smells like sewage. Food is possibly unsafe to eat. Overall I’m glad I tried it.

Place was kinda dirty, service great, got original enchilada and taco and both had beans in them, which I wish I woulda know cause that ruined it for me. Have had a different place before and was impressed, hopefully just bad luck this time.

I grew up eating at this place and love it to this day as it’s an Iowa-only chain. Never once been disappointed in the food quality or the employees, it’s 100% authentic and worth the stop. we’re moving, got it one last time and this last time was the disappointment I never wanted to have. Maybe a new employee, or cutting back on the amount that gets put into each taco, but I had enough beef, cheese & lettuce in both of my tacos combined to fill one single taco shell.

The puffy flour tacos are a fun and unique bite. They also have classic corn tacos to go with it.
The prices are great. They have a lot of options.
Dont be fooled. This isn’t authentic, its not ultra modern. Its totally simple. A few choices in proteins with a bunch of fun sides. Don’t come in for a trendy meal. This is something that is always the same and I would rate a 7/10 each time.

Tacos are amazing! Fluffy and puffy! Don’t forget to add hot sauce on the side. I can handle spice and it has a good kick. The service was impeccable and everyone was extremely polite. The tots have a special seasoning on them that is excellent. Don’t skip!
