Breakfast was overpriced and not worth it. I asked to have my toast grilled, I got dry toasted toast with no butter. Nobody working there is a morning person. Grits were runny and lukewarm. Beignets were toooo chewy. 3 employees behind the counter and no one wanted to take our finished dishes. Go to the Gentilly location. They are way nicer, foods a little better there. ANY location is better.

I stop at McKenzie’s often when I’m passing through town, and I usually get good service. There’s always the same lady behind the counter, and although she’s not the friendliest, she normally takes care of us without any issues.
Today was different. I’m not sure if she was having a bad morning, but I asked to order a breakfast platter and replace the sausage with hot sausage. She told me they only sell hot sausage as a sandwich. I said that was fine and asked if I could just get the hot sausage with my platter and skip the bread. She said, “Hold on, let me check,” then went to the back and never came back. I was left standing there waiting, feeling like she didn’t want to serve me.
I eventually walked out because it was taking so long. I came back in just to let her know not to worry about the order, and she responded with a very nonchalant “okay,” as if it didn’t matter either way. I’ve always come in friendly, but today the attitude and lack of service really caught me off guard.
It’s disappointing because even though we don’t live here, we always make sure to stop by and support this business whenever we visit. After today’s experience, I’m not sure if we’ll return.

Absolutely no price transparency. Placed a phone order based off the menu posted to Google as of a couple years ago. My poboy according to the older menu cost 9 dollars and some change, so when I get to the counter and am asked to pay 12ish bucks I dont hesitate due to tax and possible change in pricing. The lady across the counter says, “Sorry I rang you up for the meal price which is cheaper than the sandwich by itself.” “Your new total will be $24.” I mean $24 for a 12″ poboy!? From nothing more than below average cafe? When I asked about the price change she rudely said none of our prices are online. And when I looked at the menu inside all of the prices have been whited out. I dont think the lady even knew what to charge me tbh. Ended up paying a little over 10 bucks for a scrawny 6 inch poboy I could’ve fed my 2 year old son for dinner. Dont plan on eating here again.

Horrible service. Bought 2 king cakes that were stale The owner Jamie made up excuses about the king cakes . Went only because off someone’s word. I’m sticking to Antoine’s where I normally go. Only gave 1 star because 0 not an option.

The home of the one and only Kastleburger, often immigrated, never duplicated. This location also doubles as a McKenzie bakery for your donut and classic king cake needs .

I grew up in New Orleans and haven’t had a proper Raspberry filled powder sugar donut since I was a kid. We were there for Mardi Gras and we stopped in and got a few. I got the Raspberry one and it was absolutely perfectly delicious. It brought me back to childhood.
Perfect flavor and amount of jelly and a moist donut. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again.

The king cake is ok, but the poboy was the absolute worst. It looks and tastes like they used precooked and prebreaeded shrimp from the frozen aisle in the grocery store.

This place is wonderful. The buttermilk drops are the best. Just like I had when I was a kid at McKenzie’s. Staff is really nice and helpful. Highly recommended.

I’ve tried a lot of beignets in NOLA and these are by far the best. The owner was super nice and the service was exceptional! I can’t wait to return in November.
VERY CLEAN!
