My wife and I were hankering for something different, so we decided to give Taste of the Islands a go. It was not disappointing. The restaurant is very casual and laid back.
Sam who is the owner of the restaurant was very friendly and informative about their menu offers and recommended several dishes for us to try.
We opted for a chicken and pernil empanadas. Both were yummy and the dough of the empanadas were crusty and light. Not the usual heavier pastry type, but more of a savory thin crust.
My wife ordered the shrimp mofongo and I ordered the steak & shrimp mofongo. Let me tell you – both of these were really tasty. The flavors, the freshness, the presentation, and the portions – all were better than expected. I finished my plate completely and my wife boxed up her leftovers.
Did not order desert, we were just too full from dinner.
If you’re in the mood for some really good Puerto Rican food, highly recommend Taste of the Islands. Sam is a former Marine and super hospitable.

Give me a white so we came here instead of going to thrifty‘s and we definitely don’t regret it. The food was amazing. We had mafungo and fried pork chunks. The food came out fast and will be prepared. The owner is very friendly and informative about everything. Definitely will keep you occupied when it comes to conversation. My girl got Coquito and according to her it was amazing. Also, he literally threw in a free hot sauce to take home that his buddy makes called Tropic fire pineapple mango chili hot sauce very amazing. Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience! Stopped on our way up to Daytona as we happened across it while looking for tasty places. Service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. Be prepared for plenty of food – portions were perfect. The mofongo was the perfect balance of creamy and crunchy. Would highly recommend!

Fresh, authentic, Latin – mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican food. I’m visiting from Chicago and happened upon this wondrous place on a cold night in January. The Shrimp Creole was made a little spicy at my request – so tasty! My wife’s plantain cubano was made with tender, melt in your mouth pulled pork.

No wait as we were, initially, the only ones there. Owner was very nice, sociable, and was making sure everything was well. The food was amazing; we had the fried pork chunks plate, and steak and shrimp plate. Everything was well seasoned and nothing was dry. The shrimp empanada and coquito was perfecto! The atmosphere made me forget I was in Florida for a moment. We are definitely coming back

We were looking for something open late, and hopefully delicious, and we found Sabor de mi Isla- Taste of the Islands.
The moment we walked in the door we were hit with an atmosphere of authenticity – music, warm greeting, and old world decor. Fancy? No. But warm, inviting, spacious? Absolutely.
For whatever reason, as soon as I walked in I had a yearning for Morir Sañando. No sooner had i opened the menu, and the words left my lips, than our host said “yes!” It was wonderful.
It would take a page to relate to you all the good things to which we were exposed and enjoyed.
Food – made fresh, quality ingredients, authentic, delicious.
Their cup overflowed with charm, and conviviality!
We had: three fish tacos
Yellow rice, beans, fried green plantains,
And Veggie Empanada.
This author had
Shrimp empanada, Creole Salmon, w salad, yellow rice, black beans, and plantains, a pineapple beer, and of course, my morir Rolando.
We had not such a nice day at Universal Epic, and were heading home quite sad, to share a bit too much, but with a point.
We didn’t think ANYTHING could cheer us up… that might have been true, if we had not found and stores into Taste of the Islands.
We left happy, more than satisfied and uplifted.
Oh prices? Very reasonable!

Food was just amazing. My husband order stake with shrimp and let me tell you the potions they serve is way to good for the price. We had empanadas and were delicious as well. I had a trifongo so good. Service at point very welcoming. The place is very very clean. I recommend this place 100% for sure I’ll be back.
