Taste of the Islands

Social Profile:

The idea of Taste of the Islands was conceived because as longtime Plano residents we realized that Plano had every other Ethnic cuisine but nothing Caribbean.. Then after watching the February 2004 State of the Union Address and was encouraged by then President George W Bush who was promoting Small Businesses. We decided to take a chance and opened in April 2004. The rest as they say is history ……….

Lively, family-run hangout offering homestyle Caribbean cuisine & drinks, plus imported groceries.

My husband and I visited for the first time today. We tried the oxtails, stewed chicken, curry beef, plantains, and the beef patty. Everything was really delicious. The oxtail was so tender it easily fell off the bone. My only dissatisfaction was that the cabbage was too salty for my taste, but other than that, everything was excellent. We can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.

Ridiculously good food. Oxtails. Chicken curry. Wings. Patties. Crab cakes were crazy good.

Ordered goad plate, chana dalphuri and phoulori. It was a great experience to try Caribbean cuisine from this place. Food was fresh , priced decent for portion. Have some vegetarian options too. This time we took a delivery but sometime we will definitely visit this place to see what more they have to offer.

I love the oxtail!! One of my favorite dishes!! The hot sauce is a plus! I also enjoy their jerk chicken but I always get the oxtail because I don’t want to change my dish!! They are always so nice and always a good plate that I just can’t eat it all!! I love this place and have been coming for years since I found this hidden gem!!

They do say everything is bigger in Texas, right? A coworker and I stopped by here for lunch and we were admittedly greeted with a warm smile from our cashier. This was my very first time experiencing oxtails and to say the least they were well seasoned, excellent portions along with a price you couldn’t beat! I definitely can’t wait to come back! Thank you all for being so kind

Food was warm ordered a to go plate. The oxtail was delicious. The cabbage and rice were good as well. The pricing is reasonable as well. I would recommend if you are looking for some good oxtail. Also stopped by the restroom, that could use a good air freshener! Overall good place.

This is my new and only spot I’m going to when I’m in Dallas! Pros- Doubles!!, Excellent customer service, great atmosphere, not just cooked food but other island grocery products, reasonably cheap! Cons- Wish they lived close to me haha. Final take, this is a must visit whenever you have an opportunity. I can’t wait to go back!!!

So I was so excited to see that it was a Caribbean/ Jamaican restaurant close to where I live! I ordered my food To-Go! Couldn’t wait to get home to eat this food! I threw my whole entire plate in the garbage! This food is not authentic at all! I do not recommend to no one! Trash!!!!! I have nothing to eat now and I’m still hungry! All the good reviews on here must be from people with European taste buds! If I could give negative stars I would!!!!!!

We’ve been wanting some Jamaican food for quite some time now, but didn’t know of any in the metroplex worthy of trying. We spotted this place in route and decided to try it out.

Finally got Caribbean food moving from ny so it was a great find. Took me 40 mins but the customer service was great. They explained to be everything I needed to know. There was small misunderstanding with the menu since it wasn’t mentioned on the menu. But long story short I got home with my food excited to try it. The roti was a bit tough to break maybe cause it was hot when they wrap it up or idk.. but the curries wasn’t that bad it was okay.. the pollarie and potatoe ball was my favorite also the Jamaican patty. Overall I would say it was alright food. Thank you for the service.
