I work right down the street and always passed by this spot but never tried it. Yesterday, I was craving some Jamaican food and said let me give it a try. I usually order my Jamaican food from Uber Eats because there’s no Jamaican restaurants downtown Newark, but I said let me give this local restaurant a try. The outside of the restaurant is very cute which is what drew my attention but that doesn’t always translates to good food. I know we’ve all been catfished by a cute restaurant with a vibe before, but after reading other reviews I knew I could go wrong.
This spot is a hidden gem! It’s small but super cute and very clean. You can tell they take pride in keeping the place nice and welcoming. From the moment I walked in, the smell alone told me the food was going to be amazing and it did not disappoint. I order the oxtail lunch special which was $20. It comes with rice and peas and 1 side which I chose cabbage. I added a second side, plantains for an additional $2. My total came to $23.46. The oxtails were perfectly cooked: tender, juicy, and seasoned with that rich, deep Jamaican flavor. They were perfectly seasoned and falling right off the bone. The gravy was incredible. It was some of the best oxtails I’ve ever had. I could eat the gravy alone on some rice and peas. That’s how good it was.
The plantains were sweet and caramelized just right. Just like way I like them. The cabbage had the perfect balance of flavor and crunch. The portions were generous, and everything tasted homemade and authentic. You can tell the chef really knows what they’re doing and takes pride in every dish.
Service was friendly and warm. They made me feel welcome the second I stepped in. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu, but those oxtails alone are reason enough to keep me coming back! I’ve found my new favorite Jamaican restaurant. It was definitely love at first bite. I will be back again soon!
My only regret is that I did not ask for the gravy on the rice and peas. Rookie mistake! Won’t let it happen again!

Best Jamaican beef patty I’ve ever had. Ordered stewed chicken and WOW, so flavorful and tender. The potatoes in the stew were so good I wish they served that as a side on its own. Will be coming back regularly for siren

First time here, walking in off the street of Newark into this little hidden gem brings me back to the caribbean.
Was greeted with warm smile.
I didn’t have much time so I got myself some beef and chicken jerk beef patties and a Jamaican ginger beer. Flavor and texture were perfect. Just the right amount of spice.
Can’t wait to come bac

My husband and I went here after monster jam, saw that it was within waking distance of the prudential center and we decided to go check it out. This restaurant is beautifully decorated! There were many places to take photos, a lovely seating area with comfortable pillows, and there was a wall of fame of various Caribbean Islands. It smelled fresh and clean inside and you can see the staff takes great care of their restaurant. The food!!! Jessum peace!!! The food was excellent! I ordered the stew chicken with rice and peas and Mac n cheese. My husband ordered curry goat with white rice and veggies. We eat had a beef patty as a starter. The patties dem taste like bak ah yard! The Curry goat was like something we would find at a 9 night back in Jamaica and the stew chicken was very flavorful. I didn’t want the meal to end. We ordered food to take home with us to eat during the snow storm. The meal brought my husband to tears giving him a nostalgic feeling of home. We will return again!

Taste Of The Caribbean is my new favorite restaurant in the brick city! I had the jerk chicken platter the chicken was very fresh and juicy. I also enjoyed the plantains and seasoned cabbage with the meal. They also have a very nice setting on a quiet street still next to the city they have great interior from the designs all around the walls to the different food and flavors , after one taste of The head Chef Jays jerk shrimp I felt like I truly had a “taste of the Carribean”. Overall my experience was a 10/10 I will be coming back regularly and spreading my knowledge of the food and the staff was very friendly and they usually have great music playing you can hear from the seating area. This is one of the restaurant in Newark NJ I will be revisiting on a regular basis when I’m not working or have a few minutes to grab some really good food on my break

Love this place. They were able to add jerk chicken to my Rasta pasta so that I wouldn’t have to buy to separate meals. Amazing taste and amazing customer service. Definitely coming again.
