Taste of Thai VS Taste of Thai Express : r/ithaca – Reddit

Queens, NY (and also Las Vegas) has the best Thai food outside of Bangkok. Ithaca Thai food is great, but it’s not designed for Thai people.

My son and I enjoyed a nice dinner here recently 12/24/2025. Myhoa was very accommodating with both my son and our meals. Assured me everything could be altered basically too for our vegan lifestyle. Ordered vegetable tempura – wouldn’t again. Greasy, deep fried. But I did love the variety of vegetables. Carrots, sweet potatoe, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant from what I could recall. My son had the Thai fried rice – no egg, but tofu instead. I had the “cashew chicken,” meal – no dead animal / flesh for me. Tofu complimented that really well. Menh was the first person we met upon arrival, somewhat reserved but no issues. Cha assisted in bringing out meals from the kitchen & checked in once. Friendly staff. The portion size for the food and the amount of money as others have mentioned here doesn’t equate. Please work on this. But it doesn’t hurt to ask for more either. Thank you for accommodating us Myhoa. Very outgoing and sweet loving motherly soul. We had a pleasant trip. Thanks everyone bts as well especially the chef/chefs, cleaning crew. You all matter. Accepts Apple Pay, in addition to traditional methods of payments.

God Bless
We’ll see you again if The Lord permits.

I visited Ithaca, and was recommended this place. First of all, I really liked the food. It can feel unhealthy, but the amount of spiciness and savory really was close to my likings. Who eats Thai to be healthy anyway. However, the portions were pretty small for the price. Thinking it as a restaurant in a “collegetown” I think it needs to be considering the value, as students need to eat.

One of the Thai restaurant that is open 365 days a year was something very different when the waiter told us so. We waited for some time to get seated as the restaurant was quite busy and eventually service was little late. We ordered few curries and rice – everything we tasted was good except the massaman curry which was very unusual in taste than the ones we have had. We have had much much better massaman curry in other restaurants. The pineapple fried rice was also a little let down as it was too sweet and soggy more like Indian Kashmiri Pulao. The Spring rolls, Fried Tofu , green curry, yellow curry , spicy fried rice we’re all really good.

I visited Taste of Thai in Ithaca when my son started college.
It’s a well-known spot in town, so I had high expectations —
but honestly, the food was just average while the prices were quite high.
The portion size was okay, but the flavors lacked depth and balance compared to other Thai restaurants I’ve tried.
The atmosphere was pleasant, but overall, it didn’t feel worth the price.

Pros: Nice location and ambiance
Cons: Overpriced and underwhelming flavors

On our little stop over at Ithaca we had our dinner here. This restaurant serves amazing Thai food. Can’t comment how authentic it is but the food tasted as authentic and flavorful Thai as it could to us. We order yellow curry, spicey fried rice, spicey rad na. All of them were amazing
I recommend this restaurant

The flavors are truly authentic — perfectly balanced, not overly salty, and just the right level of sweetness. I highly recommend their Pad Thai!!!
The staff here are excellent — very friendly and helpful, always ready to offer recommendations if you’re unsure what to order. Prices are reasonable too, making it a great value for such quality.

It may appear that the place is closed, but the main lights seem to be out.

Staff was very hospitable and knew well about the food items on the menu.

Most of the food was delicious. Tum Yum was too sour, so I would be cautious.

Thai Spicy Noodles were quite tasty. Thus, recommend. Spicy Rad Nah was nice & different (slimy). Ordered 4/5 spicy and was okayish hot. We eat Indian level hot food, so even 5/5 wouldn’t be hot for us. Regular eaters could go up to 3 or 4.

The only complaint is the kids’ music blasting from the kitchen entrance. It was very irritating as it was getting mixed with the music played throughout the restaurant. Couldn’t enjoy the good vibe.

We came to enjoy one of my daughters’ graduation ❤️ meals here. The food was amazing. I love Thai food!

We were famished so we forgot to take more pics. We came twice (it was that good!) Once for dinner and another to go!

We are a party of 5 went to this restaurant by looking at the closing time of 10 pm in Google and arrived there at 8.30 PM.

Firstly, the servers are very rude stating that the restaurant is closed around 9.30 pm and pushing us to eat fast and go out before 9.35 PM. The server took my 4 year olds plate while she was eating and she wasn’t done yet. He didn’t ask also whether he can pick her plate.

Secondly, they added 18% gratuity for a party of 5 without letting us know and it should have added only if the party is 6 or more as stated in their menu. I added the screenshot below that they added it’s a party of 6. CHEATING!!

I told the cashier what she did is WRONG and her response was “we do this even for a party of 4 or more” which is not correct and not acceptable.

These people don’t have any integrity in their business. I strongly recommend to avoid this restaurant at any cost especially people who believes in integrity.

1. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I would give them 5 stars for hospitality.
2. The Tom Yum soup was the best. It was very delicious. Was a little spicy. I can tolerate spice OK. We ordered 3/5 spice level. I would recommend sticking to less than 3 if you can’t handle spicy food.
3. Their Thai ice tea was also good. Not as good as some of the places I’ve been to but definitely in the top 10. It was a little on the sweeter side.
4. We also ordered the Thai spicy noodles and the green curry [with veggie chicken (which I do not recommend)]. The noodles were spiced perfectly but the veggies in the noodle dish lacked seasoning. But overall it was tasty but not as tasty as the soup.
5. The Thai curry was rich in flavor but the veggie chicken was not good. Would instead get the tofu.

Overall it was a very positive dinner. We were travelling all day and hadn’t eaten all that much. I’m glad we stopped here.
We were a party of 2 and we ordered 2 drinks, one soup, and 2 main course and we finished 99% of everything we ordered.
