As we enter, we instantly recognize/remember the location formerly being an Elmer’s restaurant! Flooding of childhood memories enter our minds, giving us hope that this experience will be good…

So! We order the crab rangoon, fried shrimp, General Tso’s chicken and Mongolian Beef (lunch specials).

Crab rangoon: very crispy and the filling is ample; the sauce that comes with it ruins it. The sauce has ginger in it, paired with the cream cheese from the filling, creates a “mold” or “mildew” taste. Poor poor sauce choice.

Fried shrimp: My personal test of a restaurant’s skill. They failed. Definitely the most interesting looking fried shrimp I’ve seen, but as soon as I bit into it…disappointment. The batter is what I call my “whoopsie” batter. It’s gummy. Not something I’d serve at a restaurant.

Mongolian Beef: The “wok hey” was definitely there, but even that couldn’t save the dish. They should’ve called this “Mongolian Onions.” and the fried rice…was so dry. How do you even do that?!

General Tso’s: Best dish of the meal. The batter was crispy, the sauce was decent, but again paired with the desert fried rice.

Oh, we also got hot & Sour soup with the meal, the entire reason we went for Chinese food today. It was spiced vinegar and water with bits of tofu and woodear. Very disappointing as well.

Definitely won’t be going back for the food. It’s also a bar if that’s your thing.

Taste of Szechuan is a family-owned restaurant that serves up some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time. The orange chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right balance of sweet and tangy sauce, and the salt and pepper fish was absolutely fantastic! Light, flavorful, and cooked to perfection.

The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the large portions, so you definitely get your money’s worth here! The dining room is spacious and comfortable, making it a great spot for family gatherings, parties, or group events.

Friendly service, delicious food, and unbeatable value — I’ll definitely be coming back to Taste of Szechuan again soon!

Look, I get it. The holidays. Really busy. You weren’t prepared. I really do get it that’s why I was willing to wait 45 minutes to have my order taken. That’s why I was willing to wait 3! Hours for my food. But when you served 5 tables who came in after me, before you served me even a bowl of rice. I couldn’t even get a water refill. I was literally shaking from low blood sugar and that’s not an issue I have. You might not know that you can change the settings on your delivery app to slow orders down. Those sales are important but you make less money than your in house guests. I have enjoyed eating here in the past so I’ll likely be back and I hope next year you’re better prepared.

Wonderfully fresh and authentic food and outstanding service! We had the cucumber salad (thanks to the owner for this thoughtful birthday gesture), pan-fried potstickers, mixed vegetables with garlic sauce and spicy popcorn chicken.

This new restaurant is in the old Elmers on 82nd….We can’t wait to go back and try different dishes!

Almost missed the restaurant, but we are glad we spotted it.

Food: taste and portion are definitely better than the price.

Service: The server is attentive.

Atmosphere: Inside is spacious, clean, and quiet.

We will be back again as it’s worth the trip from Vancouver.

First time in and the service was friendly and prompt. Decent menu offers lots of tasty options without being overwhelming. General Tso’s Chicken and Black Bean Beef were favorites of the evening along with the soups. Will definitely be coming back for lunch or dinner.

We were a bit hesitant because it’s a large space (former pancake place) and only a few diners but everyone there was Chinese and we had been told food was great. And we were not disappointed. Some of the freshest most delicious dishes I’ve ever had. New owners have brought in a terrific chef. Vegetables especially were amazing. DO NOT let the outside or appearance throw you off. This place has to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Portland.

What a great new addition to the area! We had the spring rolls (tasted very fresh!) as an appetizer and shared the dry fried green beans which were DELICIOUS. I got the General Tso tofu (loved it, can’t wait to eat my leftovers.) and my husband got the sliced beef in spicy gravy and only had positive things to say. The portions are quite large and very filling. Can definitely picture this becoming part of our regular rotation.

The Sichuan food here is really legit. Ask about their specialties! The mapo tofu was delicious, and I loved the beef chow fun. The smacked cucumber salad was great, and I could not stop eating it.
The staff was great. Very helpful and friendly!

I had been here once before, and I was told these were good people. I had genuinely been looking forward to trying the food and supporting this restaurant.

But after the treatment I just received, that is over.

I was dealing with cancer-related issues and urgently needed to use the restroom, and they refused to let me. It was an incredibly cold, lacking in basic human compassion, and deeply disappointing experience. When someone is clearly in distress, especially dealing with something as serious as cancer, the decent response is kindness, not refusal.

Based on this experience, and based on the concerns seen in the most recent review, I will never patronize this restaurant again. I strongly encourage others to look elsewhere and support businesses that treat people with at least a minimum level of humanity and dignity.
