I absolutely loved Taste of Portugal in Newark. The restaurant is quiet, with nicely set tables, and the servers speak Portuguese — which is such a warm touch, especially for Brazilians. The codfish was impeccable, truly delicious, and the fried calamari was also excellent. Honestly, everything I tried was really good. On top of that, the prices are very fair for the quality of both the food and the service. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to many times!

Absolutely perfect “white tablecloth” old school service, food, and ambiance. Tried the Duck rice and the beef stew, both we amazing home-style cooking with top of the line ingredients cooked to perfection. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

Best grilled fish I’ve ever had!! Fresh and grilled perfectly with crispy skin. And the seafood soup was creamy, filled with seafood and delicious. Fresh bread and olives completed our lunch. Olives were good too. We asked for more! We parked in their parking lot just diagonal from the restaurant. The tables in seating section by the bar is casual. Beautifully set tables with white linen in the main dining room just across. Friendly atmosphere. Excellent service. Price is reasonable and comparable to any chain restaurant out there. But the food is 100 times better than the chains. We can’t wait to come back to try the steak on hot stone and their paella.

Had a FANTASTIC time today. Two of us drove from Connecticut, one from Philly (virtual coworkers who wanted to meet on the middle). Never been here. The food was excellent, the wait staff was awesome and very accomodating considering we parked our butts for some time to catch up.
It was totally worth the 2.5 hour drive up and 4 hours back (LOVE traffic, lol). Highly recommend and WILL be back!!

I celebrated my sweet 16 at this restaurant, and the food was absolutely incredible. Though it can be a bit pricey, the quality is worth it. The event room comfortably accommodated 7 to 8 tables, which was perfect for our gathering. The bright ambiance, thanks to the large windows, added to the charm. Additionally, having their own parking lot is convenient, although it can occasionally fill up.

In town on business, my colleague and I found this place on Google. I was so impressed that I went back the following night by myself for dinner! It is an amazing place. Every dish we tried was absolutely fantastic, and the service is top-notch. The bartenders were as friendly and efficient as they came. The owner was present during both visits with a welcoming smile. I like places that have regulars, and many patrons were longtime regulars. If you are in town, this restaurant is a must visit.

Hosted wife’s 50th birthday celebration here. Overall was satisfied with food and service. Staff didn’t really feel engaged. Needed some vegetarian dishes but only provide vegetable paella. No veg appetizers. Also some of the appetizers seemed pretty basic like empanada and codfish fritters. Was hoping for a bit more elegance.

They brought out the cake and started singing without any warning which was strange. So no real good coordination with me and the main host.

I confirmed there would be valet parking but then it was just 1 guy pointing in the lot so not really valet service.

In the end it was ok but for the price I expected a bit more.

Service is amazing and food and drink even better. It’s a very popular restaurant. Renovations highly recommended. It’s a high end Portuguese restaurant. Dress nice and be ready to enjoy a great dinner experience of over two to three hours. Service is top notch and very attentive. I highly recommend the steak on the stone. It’s my family’s favorite go to. It’s a large piece of tender filet mignon cooked on a stone. Definitely an experience. Desserts are great and with a nice Porto wine.

I came here for a group event. It is on. It has a private room upstairs. The meat and paella were good. The the calamari were not the greatest. The sangria was good as well. For dessert I enjoyed the seradura.

I started going here during the pandemic. NEVER NEEDED A RESERVATION to dine here. Always came as a walk-in. Food was always great and the waiters/bartenders were always so nice and friendly. Recently, I’ve been getting told that no table is available. 3 weeks in a row. I even called the last time to see if I could make a reservation. I was told I didn’t need 1. They were only taking walk-ins as it was a holiday weekend. I called a 2nd time. I got a different person and was told the same thing. I get to the door around 5pm. Before I could get one word out, I’m asked by the female hostess if I have a reservation. I said no because I was told 2x that I didn’t need 1. I even showed them my phone to show the calls I had made to them earlier as proof. Mind you, we used to go there so much that the staff as well as the waiters knew us. The waiters came to the door where we were to find out if we were sitting in the dining room or by the bar. I said apparently there are no tables available to my boyfriend and I for the 3rd Saturday in a row. They spoke to the hostess in Portuguese so I didn’t understand. I have deduced that they are very racist. I am black. I found out from a friend who is White that the last 2 times he went there, he was denied service as well. My money was good during the pandemic when businesses were slow and not making money but now I’m not fit to eat there anymore. GOOD RIDDANCE TO TASTE OF PORTUGAL!!!!! MY MONEY AND I WILL NO LONGER ALLOW YOUR RACISM.
