Absolutely phenomenal experience from start to finish!

The atmosphere was a perfect combination of cozy and ornate. The tables were spread out in a way that didn’t make the place feel crowded (even though the place was full)!

The food was out of this world! I’ve had Indian food all across the States and I can confidently say, this is some of the best and highest quality out there.

You can tell a lot of heart and craft went into these dishes. The flavors were dynamic and everything was just…perfection.

Appetizers: Samosas & Aloo Pakora

Entrees: Lamb Korma, Palak Paneer, and Navrattan Korma

Side: Garlic Naan

Dessert: Tiramisu Mousse & Blueberry Lemon bread

Drinks: Mango Lassi, Snapdragon Riesling, and Kingfisher

And finally, the service was TOP NOTCH.

Andrew was our primary server – he was attentive, responsive, funny, and kind.

On top of that, the other members of staff and management checked in as well to ensure the food was to our liking (which it very much was) and also made some great recommendations for next time.

We cannot wait to return and try more items off the menu!

I ordered the lamb bhana and it was delicious. The portion was surprisingly quite large despite it looks small. The fried eggplant was nice and crunchy, could add some seasonings in the batter. The staff were friendly. Lost a star because I had to ask for refill, kind of show the lack of attention.

Taste of India in Cedar Rapids is an excellent place for authentic Indian food. The dishes are flavorful, well-spiced, and taste freshly prepared. There are plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The staff are friendly, and the overall atmosphere is calm and welcoming. A great spot if you’re craving Indo-Asian cuisine in the area!

Gave myself the old “diet starts tomorrow” speech this morning. I ordered TOI for my proverbial last meal because I was looking for a fight and the folks in that kitchen stand there every day throwing haymaker after haymaker. They don’t miss when they swing. You know it and so do I.

Hand up accountability – I ordered food for a party of one this evening. My DoorDash driver 100% thought there was a family of four on the other end. We all know that’s why we have them leave the order outside. No rational person wants to feel the searing gaze of judgment. Listen when the food is this good though it’s not your fault. If you don’t make it past the Starters on the menu I think we can all relate.

Every now and again the kitchen gets a little loosey goosey with the spice level and we just have to accept that. Every one of us knows the game we’re playing when we ordering Indian Food.

Best Indian food in Cedar Rapids and it’s not even close.

II absolutely loved it! The spice level was just perfect, the portion size was great, the atmosphere was clean, and they were surprisingly quick at preparing the food (which is not typical for Indian restaurants). I also appreciated that they served an appetizer before the meal (which is not common in Indian restaurants either). The server was fantastic, and this is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in Cedar Rapids.

This is the BEST Indian food I’ve ever had. The staff get their jobs done but can be very unfriendly if you stay too long/want more pepper in your dish/etc. I once had a waitress stand and glare at me and my friend who were catching up over lunch—I’m sure she was standing there for at least 15 minutes. They also tend to put varying portions in the takeout, just depends which container they use/who does it. Atmosphere is calming if you get a good waitress/waiter. I’ll continue to be a customer because, again, the food is PHENOMENAL.

Love the food but the service is incredibly good. Best in town amongst all the Indian eateries. Very considerate and polite. 10/10

I enjoyed lunch the other day with the irrepressible Laura Jean Dammann at Taste of India.

We both love Indian cuisine, and I was happy that Laura, who is a regular, recommended them for lunch.

We were seated instantly and the service was brisk. Our waitstaff, which included several rotating individuals, gave us time to chat but were nearby when it was time to place our order.

I like to order a dish I am familiar with, the idea being that I have had it in several establishments and can compare it to the others.

I chose Baingan Bharta, a roasted eggplant dish, usually richly spiced, that I am quite fond of.
Laura chose the daily luncheon special, which is a combination meal of 2-3 dishes with naan and rice.
Her three-dish combo consisted of Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, and Vegetable Makhani.

Firstly, a few words about the presentation of the special.
The dishes were served in a bento box, which I found not only functional but charming.
I had actually ordered the same special to take home for my partner, so I was able to taste the dishes.

The chicken was plentiful and the sauces were silky and flavorful.
I like the idea of smaller portions of multiple dishes. It allows one to sample different tastes in a single meal.

My dish was delectable! The eggplant was very well roasted, and the spice was rich and deep. I enjoyed this version of it, and the only word that comes to mind to describe its flavor is… dark.

It was different than many other preparations, and I couldn’t say that one was better than the other, but this dish definitely stood out from the crowd.

We also enjoyed an appetizer, Vegetable Cutlets, mildly spiced potato & green peas patties served with tamarind & cilantro chutney.

This was a completely new dish for me, and I found the patties to be mild (as advertised), and very satisfying as they are quite dense.
The consistency and flavor married well with the two sauces and I quartered the patties into delightful little bites.

It was a wonderful lunch, I very much enjoyed the company (thanks, Laura ), the bustling, bright, and clean setting, and the yummy food!

I will return to taste their version of another favorite of mine, Gobi (Gobhi) Manchurian.
As well as try a few new dishes, most notably Gobhi 65, cauliflower florets, deep fried and sauteed with house special masala sauce, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and topped with cilantro.
Yum‼️

Food was absolutely delicious. I feel that the rice portions could be larger. Definitely not enough rice for our curries. They were happy to bring more, but we did incur an additional charge.

Service was fast. Food was fast.

Restaurant atmosphere: although some parts are well-worn (seat cushions), the restaurant was clean.

Taste of India has been our go-to restaurant for years, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently delicious, with a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The servers are always friendly and happy to explain the dishes if you have any questions. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the desserts are worth trying. Whether it’s a casual dinner or a special occasion, we always leave happy and satisfied. Highly recommend!
