I’m a regular at taroko & this is why;
The food is always amazing, the atmosphere is always quant, & the service is always on point.
I’ve sampled most of the menu items and there’s not a single dish that doesn’t stand out for itself in very strong and delicious ways — The kitchen never sends a dull meal, the spices are always on point, and I’ve not been dissatisfied or disappointed with a single dish.
Their menu is diverse – with some flavorful heavy hitters;
From ramen (pictured), to pho, to methodically constructed fusion dishes – Taroko is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in town for a worthwhile meal.

The vibe is upscale for Redding. There is comfortable seating throughout the restaurant. We were greeted by friendly staff & attended to with care at the bar. The menu is a mix of Korean and Japanese. The food was on par with the cultures it represented for example the kimchi was pickled perfectly and rice cooked to a perfect sticky yet not clumpy texture.

Great food with just the right price. Good amount of serving in every order. Their Clam TomYum is hands down the best I have ever tasted. The host was friendly. Then Jake was attentive to our needs, he was our server and I see he was also the bartender. I also appreciate Tyler who brought out our foods to the table, very courteous and nice. My only suggestion is for the dish I ordered, Pork Belly Bowl, to soften the meat of your Pork Belly Bowl wherein it would taste like its softness would melt in the mouth kind of texture because the taste is great already its just a bit tough to chew. Oh their Tiramisu is a 5⭐️! Perfect size, fluffy texture and not too sweet. This is the best Tiramisu for me in Redding,CA.

The service was great and the theme of the place looked nice, but unfortunately the food didn’t meet expectations. The ramen tasted like it came from a package and was missing the usual ingredients; the noodles had a strange, possibly expired smell. The pho was similar in quality. The fried calamari was undercooked and had a fishy odor inside. I hope others have a better experience than I did.

Truly exceptional! Taroko has it all: delicious food, beautiful interior design, a calming atmosphere, and great service. I loved their beef stew and truffle fried rice, and would’ve tried more dishes if I had the space. Definitely a must try in Redding especially if you’re looking for an elevated Asian dining experience!

UPDATE: So good, we went back the next night! As good or better than the night before!

In Redding, good food in a restaurant setting is a rare gem—and Taroko is a gem among coal.

We ordered a variety of small plates: calamari, popcorn chicken, and scallion pancakes. Portions were generous, flavors popped, and each came with its own dipping sauce (a nice bonus). The popcorn chicken was a peppery flavor bomb—easily a favorite. The scallion pancakes were thicker and more fried than traditional ones, but paired with a handcrafted cocktail from the full bar, they became a guilty pleasure I’d order again.

The calamari had great flavor, but the pieces were oversized and a bit too heavily fried for our liking.

We also had the Hong Kong noodles—craveable in every sense.

Service was spot-on, and the atmosphere hits the sweet spot between trendy and relaxed—perfect for a date night or a stylish night out with friends.

Highly recommend.

Excellent food variety, very good selection of beverages, even sake, (three or four different types of sake), and some imported beers on tap and in bottles. I tried the best recommended dry sake, and had it and imported Japanese beer, paired with a bowl of edamame beans.
First time there, because my favorite local music performer, Ashley Black, was performing that night.
I would go back again for the food because they had an excellent menu.

Everything we ordered was fantastic — teriyaki salmon w/ fried rice, cucumber salad + chili wontons. The food was fresh and had fantastic flavor. Compliments to the chef – not a grain of rice was left

We were referred to this restaurant by the American Modern Hotel where we were staying and holy yum! That was just about the best Asian food I have ever had! Who knew Redding had such a hidden gem tucked into their downtown? the restaurant is somewhat unique, a fusion of Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and more! The menu was fairly diverse!

We arrived at about 6pm on a Wednesday and they were already 3/4s full. The person who greeted us said they had a lot of reservations that night, but they were able to squeeze us in still. While we were there, the restaurant got packed with people. It’s clearly a popular place to be full on a Wednesday night! And after eating the food, I know why! Our server recommended the crispy chicken bun appetizer, and it was everything as wonderful as it promised to be! Very unique too. It ate like a taco with the sweet sticky bun serving as a taco shell and the balance of the crispy chicken with the hoisin and that spicy mayo…it was an explosion of flavors in your mouth! It comes with two bun tacos, which was perfect since I was dining with a friend.

For our main courses, she ordered the crispy shrimp with a honey cream sauce and I ordered the Korean kalbi short ribs bowl. Both of them were amazing! The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the light, crispy breading on the outside went well with the delicate honey cream sauce drizzled on top. I appreciated that they did not drown it in sauce like most places do! And the Korean kalbi short ribs bowl was another flavor adventure! You can see from the photo that there was a lot in the bowl and when eaten together, it all worked harmoniously! Their Kim chi is outstanding too!

The service was exceptional and we will definitely be back when we are in Redding again in December. This restaurant is a must try if you appreciate high-quality Asian food!

I try to be fair,
So if you see how I rated the food and atmosphere you could understand that there must be some other reason why I put a one star.

I appreciate Rain (a manager there) and Izzy (our second server during this experience) for trying to make the rest of our time there exceptional (and the service was very good, and they were very nice)

BUT,

Here’s what happened:

I made it there early to reserve a table for me and someone I was going out on a date with for the first time. I got a nice table near the front, ordered some tea and then I told people at the counter that I would be outside waiting for my date.

Then I look through the window, and some other server is seating somebody at my table. So I rushed in to ask them ( the new customers and the server ) to have them sit somewhere else, that that table was taken, but the server seating them couldn’t even bother looking at me and would not even stop them from setting up on my table.

I told them that if they didn’t address this issue and reSeat the new people somewhere else, that I would leave a review about this. And they didn’t, they wouldn’t. and so I am.

I felt disrespected by the staff, and the new customers that just walked in who are basically encouraged to ignore me and take my table knowing now that it shouldn’t have been available for them to take.

That’s bad. I think the staff should have been responsible for reseating these “people” that came in after I did, and not shifting the responsibility to me to now find a new table I can accept for me and my date.

You go to a restaurant as early as you can to be able to get a good table, and then now you can’t have it because: “there was a miscommunication between the staff”.

That was simply insane to me.
