Tarka is hands down my favorite spot in town, but Luis is the reason I keep coming back! The food is always a consistent 5/5, but the service Luis provides is next level. He’s incredibly fast, super friendly, and knows the menu so well he can practically order for you. He handled our checkout with such great energy and truly kept the vibes immaculate. If you’re stopping by, pray that Luis is on shift!

We were here for the first time and ordered paneer tikka masala, chicken biryani and butter naan. We asked for mild spice and it was mild. Food is mediocre. We have eaten much better Indian food.

The food was a disaster for me and my friends. Some people may like it but its too bland for an indian person. I ordered a medium spice paneer tikka masala, it was too sweet and was like tomato greavy with paneer pieces. Then I ordered a extra spicy mirchi masala curry, that was not a flavorful spice. Its more like a raw mirchi kind of spice. The paneer biryani I ordered was more like a paneer pulav. The cumin taste was too overpowering in it. My entire food experience was like american versions of the indian menu. Tbh I dont recommend it to any person who wants authentication indian food, as its spice levels and flavors are not on par with many other restaurants in austin and round rock areas. The service and atmosphere was really silent and peaceful though.

DO NOT EAT HERE. Roaches in the food and the Food license is expired.

I visited Tarka for the first time today. Ate a portion of my meal and then decided to get a to-go box.

After scooping my bowl, I found a dead cockroach at the bottom. Ick! It was so disgusting to find this AFTER eating my meal. Upon leaving, I also discovered their food operating license is expired.

I will never visit this restaurant again.

I’m new to Austin and was pleasantly surprised by how much my family liked this place. It’s a casual restaurant which comes in handy when going out with two little kids who are starving. We ordered, sat down, the kids food came out first which was helpful, the lemonade that came with the kids meal was so yummy. My girls got the chicken strips and fries. The fries usually come with spices on them but because we hadn’t tried them before I had the spices put on the side just in case. The quality was really good and it was a great price for a kids meal.
My husband and I both ordered the Tikka Masala, medium heat and it was delicious. The flavors were great and the garlic naan was very good. I recommend ordering more naan than you think because it’s just that good. Will be returning and had a great first experience.

I can only speak for the North Cross location, which I have been eating at for over 5 years. Is the food more like fast Indian food for non-indian people? Yes! But as a white girl who needs the occasional quick meal, I love it. Also, I accidentally ordered from the wrong location and didn’t realize until I came to pick up. Without missing a beat, the cashier entered my order in so I wouldn’t have to drive across town to get my food and they took care of me.

Tarka’s food is tasty, but inconsistent. Once the menu offered – and we ordered – Gobi Manchurian: it was delicious, but it has never available again (if it was, we’d order it again). Most recently, the Chana Masala tasted flat and apparently had no cardamom, although cardamom is an essential ingredient (but it is expensive!). Tarka offers spice level customization and vegetarian/vegan options, but those entrees are very starch heavy – mostly potatoes and beans. The two fresh salads offered aren’t vegetarian/vegan. However, you can always order a $3 side of raw veggies or kabob veggies. We enjoy and appreciate the rice with added cumin seed and the vegan lassis.

Quick and easy Indian food. The food is a tad bit salty … but it really depends on the day. Overall is great. The place is clean. Staffs are friendly. Food comes out hot and delicious. I would go back here again for lunch or dinner when I have craving for Indian cuisine.

It’s a very nice place, with good menu and friendly staff and enough of seating for 30+. It’s not very noisy, and you can find a seat to feel comfortable either on the chairs or the couches. There are tables for groups. I liked the food and loved the Indian chai and will definitely go there again for the chai and the gulab jaman (desert).
