Well, I will start with what my wife ordered which was the 1 crab cake dinner. Taking into consideration we were not at a full fledged seafood restaurant the crab cake was good. Not a lot of filler, so it was good. Now on to what I ordered which was pulled pork. First it came to the table stone cold ? Secondly it had no smoke taste like they smoked it. It also had no seasoning taste at all. I mean it tasted like it was thrown in a pan with nothing and baked in the oven till well done, then set out and cooled off and served. Only bbq sauce they had was some vinegar based sauce, that’s it. Now not saying We will not come back but, I will not order the bbq again. It will be a different menu item. Great service and atmosphere though.

This is my second visit. The customer service is great. Hope, the beautiful young lady that took our order, was very courteous and informative. She made sure that we were aware of every option available and even took her time to give me info for this review. This is a quiet quaint establishment with wait service. Just go in and be seated and someone will be with you shortly! The menu consists of down home bar-b-q and pulled pork amongst a plethora of sides, appetizers and children’s choices. Homemade dude is also available in different flavors and I was told that it’s made locally by a woman in Ahoski North Carolina. Today’s special was the ribs so that is what I ordered and he wanted chicken as usual.

My family and I love visiting Tarheel BBQ almost every Friday. We always have a wonderful experience. The staff is super hospitable. Their down-home cooking is always fresh and delicious!! 10/10 recommend!!

Group of 7 friends agree: Absolutely the WORST BBQ sandwiches we’ve ever had! BBQ shouldn’t be DRY and stringy, with gristle all throughout! All the sides come straight out of a can, no seasoning! NASTY! The restaurant is outdated and not comfortable, not an appetizing atmosphere at all. People are nice but we won’t be back. Don’t believe the hype, we thought they were known for their BBQ, we’d sure like to know when because it wasn’t today!

This place is about 1.5 hours from me. I found this place because for the first time I wanted Carolina bar b q. It did not disappoint. Wife and I went on food tour for our 22nd wedding anniversary. 4 stars because I think every bar b q place should have a sampler platter of their product. I would pay a minimum of $25 for a sample platter. They also offered fried apple pie, I never heard off this and my taste buds started dancing wanting to taste it. Unfortunately they did not have anymore fried apple pie. So I guess I have to visit Tarheel Bar B Q again. Not only for the fried apple pie, I will try something different. When I find an awesome place I want to try just about everything. Wife ordered pork bar b q sandwich with fried apples. I had the pork bar q dinner with macaroni and creamed potatoes This place is on side the road and is a good place to stop for awesome food. The price of the food is also very reasonable. I also purchased their carolina bar b q sauce. My home grilling is about to take off.
