Excellent place for a date or special event. Service was impeccable and the menu allowed for mix and match of smaller and larger plates to share. Our server actually recommended dishes that paired well and was mindful to bring out the dishes in pairs that complemented eachother rather than all at once. Though the duck and the gnocchi we tried were both very good and well conceived, it ended up being the veggies dishes that stole the show for us. I really enjoyed the spicy eggplant and my partner’s favorite was the honey lavender cauliflower. I would definitely come back, if only to try the fish next time which looked amazing. Reservations recommended. Beer and a very extensive wine list only, no cocktails. Street parking wasn’t bad during the week.

Tar & Roses came highly recommended and did not disappoint. There are three distinct seating areas each with a unique vibe; sidewalk (outdoor) seating, confined yet open air courtyard, and indoor by the kitchen and bar. The courtyard seemed most romantic while the indoor space, while we sat, was still a sleek, dimly lit spot fit for any special occasion.

Tar & Roses came highly recommended by French friends and didn’t disappoint. The food was really good – the fried cauliflower is insane, loved the strawberry pie as well. The staff very professional with great attention to detail. Highly recommended.

Amazing food and wine. I took my mom and we shared the glazed rib appetizer. For the main dish, I had the black cod with lemongrass risotto. Decent portion size and great mix of flavors. My mom had the hanger steak, which was grilled perfectly. The strawberry ricotta crostata was to die for! I plan to come back here again to share the experience with friends.

From the service to the food, everything was great. I can’t say I wanted to try everything on the menu, but for the items we did try, they were fantastic.

Amazing! Our first time here. The flavours and recommendations made for an exceptional experience. Dishes are for sharing and we managed to try several but will return to try the other dishes because we enjoyed all we had! We informed our server that it was our first visit and his recommendations fit our tastes perfect!

Dinner and service were great, atmosphere was fine, nothing special. Notable dishes were the oxtail dumplings, the pork ribs and lb kabob. We also had the octopus skewer (good), mushrooms (tasty), black cod (good) and the little gem salad (so so). Ended with the sticky toffee pudding dessert which was delicious. They also only serve beer and wine, no full bar.

Hostess: “Oh this is your first time here? Welcome to your new favorite restaurant.” How right she was. Oxtail dumplings, lambshank and sunchokes…everything was perfect. Special thanks to Johnny [and Sarah] for taking such great care of us.

Andrew was wonderful and took special care with everyone! The food is unbelievably delicious and I guarantee you will not find these dishes anywhere else! Worth traveling to get there. My wife’s favorite restaurant, hands down. If you are a car person, be sure to show Andrew your car. He’s a car guy

Maybe I should do more research before I came here. It is an Asian and Spanish fusion. Most of the dishes were like tapas style and are really small so order a lot.
