Walked in with an empty parking lot, but soon 2 and 3 more people entered along with a handful of lunch carry out pick ups.
This place didn’t disappoint.
Not a ton of seating, mostly 4 tops.
No over the top frills, a simple yet pretty extensive menu of traditional food.
Chips and Salsa were brought.
I tried the Mexican tacos, 2 carne asada, and 2 carnival.
They were very good, held together well, while a lot of places they fall apart. Of course, cilantro, onions, grilled jalapeño , and fresh lime slices were on there, and all fresh.
Very fair prices for the quality you’re getting, and the food will fill you up.
The waitress though seemed like either she didn’t like her job, or just didn’t care. My friend asked if the taco shell could be subbed for a flour one (since it was corn) and the waitress paused for what seemed like an eternity to answer and said “eh, let me check”.
All in all, I would come back for takeout or something of that nature, but go somewhere else for a dine in experience.
I happened to forget my wallet, and my server was really chill about it. I really do appreciate her willingness to trust me to come back and pay.
When I get there I was floored by the decor. If it weren’t for COVID-19 I would definitely set up a dinner date party with friends here. Aside from the bright and cheerful setting, it was good to see the place following social distance guidelines.
So let me tell you how pleasantly surprised I was that they have the “fun meats” available that I like to eat. I usually go to SW Detroit, where there’s is a large Latin community, to order Tamarindo de agua (tamarind-aide), lengua (beef tongue) and tripas (beef tripe) tacos, and menudo (beef tripe) soup. I was SO HAPPY that I could place this order here as well. And, yes, I ate all of it. Delicious . I even ordered another taco dinner to go to bring to my hubs- carne asada (marinated beef) and al pastor (marinated pork), we’ll see later how much he likes it.
Oh, and while eating my meal I noticed a steady stream of Latin folks come through. It’s assuring to see this place is supported by the community. I almost forgot I wasn’t in SW Detroit! I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area… I might even bring my laptop too since I saw an outlet next to the booth in the back.
Update: my hubs liked his take out and wants try this place out in person, so I can’t wait to come here again.
Now we’re married and just left and it’s somehow getting better with every visit haha
