Looking for authentic Mexican comfort food in Bloomington? Taqueria Porton is a must-visit.
The food is consistently fresh, well-portioned, and packed with traditional flavor. The tacos are served exactly as they should be—tender meat on warm corn tortillas with fresh cilantro and onions—while the gorditas offer a perfect, lightly crisped masa pocket.
Even the sides stand out; the rice is fluffy and the refried beans are creamy and delicious. It’s a casual, welcoming spot where the focus is entirely on quality. Highly recommended for a real-deal meal.

We stopped in for lunch and were so happy we did! The food smelled great the minute you walked in. Lunch did not disappoint and I had enough left over for lunch again today. I had the chimichanga and my husband enjoyed three different tacos. Everything was fresh and delicious! Very clean, fair pricing with huge portions and the service was great! We will definitely make this a new lunch spot.

Being a recent Texas-to-Illinois transplant, THIS was the kind of Mexican food I feel like I’ve been searching for. Excellent chips, salsa, beans & rice, and service. After a lot of searching I feel like we have found our spot.

I came back and tried again after about a 6 month break and am really happy to say the food has improved, and the service is leaps and bounds better with the newer guy they hired (best service I’ve ever had at this restaurant has been from him, hands down)
The tacos are on point. I tried the lengua tacos and they are excellent even though I usually get steak (pictured)
The molcajeteada is usually my favorite! The one I had here had kinda overly dried out / chewy steak, but otherwise was solid and I’ll get it again
Much love to the El Porton family

I love this place. I’m a Texan transplant and I thought I was never going to find salsa that was even remotely spicy but Taqueria Porton has some of the best salsa I’ve ever had. Their beans and rice are amazing. There hasn’t been a dish I haven’t liked so far.

place was super busy and packed, asked if I could order a couple breakfast burritos at 2pm, they obliged. Took a bit to get my food and there was multiple people in line but i was prioritized, so no complaints. FIRE breakfast burritos, the chorizo is bomb.

I can’t speak for authenticity but I can say that we had a very tasty and hot meal on our visit to Bloomington today. The salsa was very nicely flavored (my wife thought it was spicy but I loved it); the guacamole was more her taste. As soon as I saw that they offered cow tongue I knew I was going to get that. I had the cow tongue burrito and the meat was cooked PERFECTLY and was very flavorful. My wife had the fish tacos and she liked them a lot. Our toddler enjoyed picking apart the tacos, and I had the other one (beef) and it was very good. The service was great as well. Whenever we come back through town we will be 100% be back here!

I had an avocado tip in my salad that I actually bit down on. It was very hard and hurt my teeth for a few days. The male manager was super rude straight out the gate like I placed the thing in my food. The last picture is the plate he replaced my original plate with. I want be back and I will tell anyone going DON’T!!! The manager could have owned the mistake. It wasn’t my fault.

Holy Mexican food! The BEST Mexican food I have ever tried in my life! Fresh, simple, delicious. The service was outstanding; our waitress was the sweetest human on the planet. Will be back for sure.
This place is 2.5 hrs from where I live, but the food is worth the drive.
