The dining area was colorful and well-lit without being too bright. The complimentary chips were a little stale. The salsa that came with them had a good consistency and was probably at the lower end of medium as far as heat goes. I had the beef fajita chimichanga plate. The rice was a little dry, but had a good robust flavor. The refried beans had a smooth creamy texture and an interesting smokey flavor to them, but they could have been a little warmer. The chimichanga was completely packed with shredded beef and cheese and topped with a flavorful red sauce and cheese which all came together quite nicely with the sour cream, guacamole, and salsa provided. The server was friendly, efficient, and made her rounds to the table at just the right moments.

While the woman that took my order in the drive thru was friendly.
The rice given to me was SOUR.
So sour you could smell it throughout my car.
I had ordered early morning March 4, 2026.
I felt bad for ordering rice so early but thought they would have some prepared for the day. If they didn’t have fresh rice. I would’ve thank them and went on about my day. Instead, I was served old rice, that one of the females employee said over the phone when I called around 10:26am.
She stated, “we didn’t have fresh rice so we served old rice.” My stomach started turning and I ended up getting food poisoning. First and last time I will go there sadly. (I was excited because I seen how much guests they get a day when I drive past it. Unfortunately my experience was ruined.)

My wife and I love this place! However, overall the past 5-6 visits, the food has not been at all. Barely on the warm side. It’s starting to turn us off to this location

1 out of 10, would not recommend. Took my daughter there for breakfast, when we walked in there wasn’t anybody visible in the restaurant but we could hear someone working in the kitchen so we walked toward the counter where we found the hostess/waitress with her head down on the table watching her phone. My daughter ordered the breakfast sandwich (ham, eggs, and cheese), there was no cheese on her sandwich. I ordered a breakfast platter with 2 eggs (over easy), sausage, toast, potatoes, cactus and beans. My eggs were scrambled and and way overcooked, there was no sausage, and the refried beans were cold (like out of the refrigerator cold). Getting the waitress back to the table took 10 minutes, I asked for the sausage I didn’t recieved and was told they were out. I asked for the check and asked her to take the sausage off she said she would. She brought the check via a digital card reader (no itemized bill) it looked higher than it should been. I asked to see an itemized bill and got one. Although, with a side of aditude. I was being charged for sausage I didn’t recieve and an extra orange juice. Eventually we got it sorted. My daughter and I both had less than three bites of our meals, paid for them, left, and then went to a restaurant a mile up the road (much better).

Portions on plate were good, however the pork was rancid and the plate only came with two tortillas. The quality was not consistent on a second order. This might be taken as a great place for those who are not familiar with Mexican food as the place is large and clean providing a great feel atmosphere but the food is not as authentic and done sloppy as it tastes old and it is pricey for the better dishes. As a Mexican restaurant critique and being Mexican this is a classic place to the, I treat certain customers different based on tips and return visits type thing. Great place to get something in your stomach not a good place to expect quality or authentic food. Average cost for 2 to eat without tipping is around 40$ yes 40$ for average no better than whataburger quality and service.

We drive by this Mexican restaurant all the time, so I know there are some loyal fans of this place. But our experience was a total disappointment.

We stopped for lunch on a Tuesday around 12 noon. The place was not busy, and we were told to pick any seat. To start, the server was not friendly. It almost felt like he was being bothered to have to wait on us. People have bad days, but come on, when you’re in the service industry, you’ve got to put a smile on your face and at least be pleasant. Unfortunately, this set the tone for our entire experience.

Chips and salsa were delivered as soon as we sat down. I asked the server, and he told us that the chips came in a bag, but they made the salsa in-house. The chips were not great (hard and not crisp), and the salsa was watered-down without much flavor. We asked for another salsa and it was the same as the first one we got. We love chips and salsa and usually eat so much of it that we can’t finish our meals. But we pushed the chips aside after barely making a dent in the basket. We both ordered water and it has an unpleasant taste to it. We’ve had water at other restaurants in Harker Heights (and Killeen) and it doesn’t taste this bad. I can only imagine that they get it directly from the faucet over a sink in back, where I bet most other places filter their water before serving it. If they are serving filtered water here, then they need to change the filter! All this and I haven’t even talked about the food!

I ordered the Mexican Burrito Plate, and my wife ordered the Tejano Plate. The burrito wasn’t very impressive….meat inside of a tortilla with cheese on top. Topping it off with some shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, and sour cream would have greatly enhanced the meat. Now, I probably could have ordered all those toppings extra, but the burrito is already $12.25 (which is more than the price listed on the menu on their website), and I wanted to try something right off their menu without adding extra stuff. The refried beans are okay, a little garnish would make it look more pleasing, and the rice was undercooked without much flavor. The crispy taco that came with my wife’s meal was soggy and like my burrito, it was just meat inside of a taco shell with a little lettuce and shredded cheese sprinkled on top.

There are a lot of restaurants out there that serve Mexican or Tex-Mex food and unfortunately, Taquerias Mexico falls well short of average. Based on our experience, we won’t go back and don’t recommend this restaurant.

UPDATE: I appreciate the response from the owner. This was a visit to your Harker Heights location. Other people have left great reviews for your restaurant, and this is only my opinion based on our visit. Although we won’t visit again, I do wish you all the luck in the very challenging food industry.

Not really recommended, ive order two soups of caldo de res to go, both extra meat. But when I got home late night last night ready to have my meal both soup were really filled up with just vegetables no extra meat just one piece of meat with the bone in it. They really screw me over I paid $51 dollars with both soup but not even they didn’t have the extra meat but literally filled with vegetables with just one piece of meat in both soup. Im so upset but I can’t do anything or return it because they are closed not really recommended to anyone unless you want to get screw over with your money. I am fixing to called the restaurant tomorrow to get me my money back.

My new favorite place. I love their breakfast tacos and the Jalisco omelet (steak and cheese). Their quesadillas are delicious. The theme and decor definitely transport you to Mexico. The staff is very nice and friendly. 2 thumbs up .
