Welcome to Taquería María’s, where authentic Mexican flavors meet passion, tradition, and the finest ingredients. Located in Monroe Township, New Jersey, we are proud to serve a vibrant menu inspired by a rich culinary heritage and a lifelong dedication to the art of cooking. Our story begins with María, a young girl who, from an early age, was immersed in the world of food and culture. She learned the craft of hospitality and culinary techniques working alongside Greek restaurant owners, honing not only her cooking skills but also her entrepreneurial spirit. This experience laid the foundation for her first venture, Tapatio, which she opened in 1998 at the age of just 17.
Compact, no-frills, family-run eatery specializing in traditional, homestyle Mexican plates.

We kicked it off with the fiesta nachos.. absolutely outstanding!! The starter came with an orange house salsa and a verde that had just the right balance of mild heat and flavor.
Unforgettable Entrée
The main course was incredible. Layers of flavor that left us genuinely happy. The beef was packed with richness, and the cheese was next-level delicious. My wife smiled the entire time, and we couldn’t stop laughing and enjoying every bite.
The Vibe
The space itself is cute, cozy, and intimate and a perfect for a relaxed night out.
Highly recommend trying it for yourself!!
My husband and I are regulars and they never fail.

Fresh, flavorful, and cooked right. The tacos were packed, the meat was seasoned perfectly, and everything tasted authentic. No frills, just really solid Mexican food done the right way.
If you’re in Monroe and want something consistently good, this spot delivers. Definitely worth a visit.
I ordered the Empanadas with Al Pastor, which I’ve had before and loved, but this time it was a bit dry and just didn’t hit the mark. My husband initially ordered tamales, but was told they couldn’t make them vegetarian that day, so he switched to a vegetarian quesadilla instead. He found it to be completely lacking in flavor, which was especially surprising given how much we usually enjoy their food.
Another letdown was the table service. After a crowd left, a new couple was seated at the same table, but a large spilled drink under the table was left untouched. It seemed like an oversight, but still, it was pretty disappointing to see that they hadn’t bothered to clean it up, especially when it was so noticeable.
On a positive note, the service was still excellent, and the fresh chips and salsas were just as delicious as always. I’m hoping this was just an off day for them and not a sign of a bigger issue.
