Went to this spot right off the Metra and was pleasantly surprised by tasty great value eats and homey service. I ordered the steak and the tripa tacos with everything on top. Meat and veggies were fresh and were grilled to order. Salsa verde added a satisfying sweet and spicy kick. Excellent service. Was even offered water after my meal free of charge. If you are in the neighbourhood, stop by and support this local business!!!

My family and I, first discovered Taqueria Hernandez in 2002 while living in Rogers Park. Shortly after, we moved away and hardly ever found ourselves in the area. Yesterday happened to be my first time visiting Taqueria Hernandez in 22 years and I found myself tasting the same quality tacos I had when I was 5 years old.

To put it blatantly, I want it to be known that in my close to 28 years of living, I have yet to find better tasting tacos de lengua anywhere else in the US.

Pictured below is my plate which consisted of: 1 taco de lengua, 1 torta de asada and 1 sope de asada.

Ultimately, if you ever find yourself visiting Chicago, do yourself the favor and check this place out. I promise you will not be disappointed.

For more than six years, Taqueria Hernández has been my all-time favorite taco place, and they never let me down. The cuisine, particularly the beef tacos and their green salsa, is consistently hot, fresh, and flavorful. The staff is always nice and friendly, and even when they’re busy, they work quickly while still being patient with everyone. Every time I’ve been there, the quality has consistently been outstanding, the restaurant is spotless, and the portions are substantial. They really do it here, which is why I always come back!

Has got to be some of the best tacos in the north side of Chicago. Personal favorite is the steak. It’s super juicy and tender. Can’t go wrong with a burrito, taco, or quesadilla.

I always get steak tacos and they are delicious. Very flavorful and good serving size. They also have good horchata, although a bit sweet. Also it was my friends birthday and they gave him a lit up rose!

My favorite tacos supplier. We’ve been coming to get tacos from here for almost 21 years. Great food and service.

Authentic! It got super busy so we had to wait a good 15 to give our order. I wish there was a little bit more seasoning.

My favorite place for a quick meal at a very reasonable price before going home. It’s not fancy but is authentic and everyone was great.

It’s not very good. A lot of locals and college kids seem to like this place, but I really can’t tell why. The food is barely seasoned, and just absolutely dull. The place was empty during dinnertime on a Sunday night, and I can tell why. The burrito just felt like a big nasty pile of sour cream and lettuce. The menu is unclear, doesn’t really list prices, and is legitimately just a board above the order counter with no paper copies in sight. It felt like a guessing game to order, and like they just sort of arbitrarily charged us some random number lol. Felt REALLY expensive for the amount of food we were given- plates were sparse. The taco meat tasted extremely cheap, had a LOT of gristle, and was unseasoned. The place felt dirty and confusing, not really like a real restaurant but like a few confused staff members trying to remember where they were. The rice was uncooked and literally had crunch to it. It was also never clear how exactly to order or eat? There are tables you can sit at, and a waitress taking some orders at tables, but we sat and we were not served, so we had to go to the counter. It just seems like such an inconsistent experience, I really don’t think anyone there knew what they were doing unfortunately.

Overall, there are a LOT of options for taquerias and Mexican restaurants in this area- why would you go to this one????
