Has seen pictures of this place and decided to try the tacos and other food that they had. Overall, it was a decent spot and the food had flavor in it. As well as the tamales. The corn in the cup was good. But I will see if you’re one of those that goes to a street vendor then, you will notice the difference. Because this tasted like canned corn. It was still good and tasted great as they made it the same way the street vendors do minus the real corn lol. The prices compared to other locations are about the same give or take. The hot sauce in the picture from left to right at mild to hot. If you don’t eat spicy don’t try the orange looking one.

The service is great, they are kind and patience.
The place is always clean, like they are always cleaning.
The food! O man is delicious. Good portion and very flavorful. I will like more items on the menu, but what they have is very good!.
Just try the “Rajas co. Queso” today while waiting for a To Go order. Ohhh I regret not ordering more, this was so good.

The machete was good, it was loaded with the pastor meat and cheese. Definitely worth the $20. I would say I prefer a thinner tortilla but I guess this is how the machetes hold their weight cause it was hefty. The salsas were good and I also got a tripa tacos which was nice and tasty.

Coming from the West Coast I get really skeptical of Mexican restaurants in Texas. We’re Blacxican from the West coast and taught by our brown family. It’s not like the west coast here; there we’re down for each other. Anyway, If you’re in the Forney area and you are looking for an amazingly good authentic and homemade, no Tex-Mex just all Mex; Mexican food this is really the restaurant to go to, to get that. The food was amazing. The atmosphere is gorgeous. The customer service is nice and honestly, I cannot say that about all restaurants with Hispanic culture for someone like me who is Black. This food was amazing. The customer service was great and I’m definitely going back next time it won’t be a little sample. It’s gonna be a whole meal.

For a forney taco spot this place is a little above average in terms of flavor of the carne asada and al pastor. The al pastor burrito was good. I added onion n cilantro. That was a good call. We also had the fajitas. That was ok. Needed onion cilantro and limes. The hot sauces were typical. Creamy red n green. A salsa verde and rojo. The rojo tasted like pace picante sauce. That was a turn off. In terms of atmosphere it was typical sterile, metal furnishings. Service was great. They even gave us some meat to sample before i ordered. Nice. The prices for everything was pretty expensive considering the other local taco shops. Ah the churro. It was one of the best tasting but also one of the smallest ive ever had. Should make it 5 dollars and twice the length. It was so good that it bumped up the food stars from 3 to 4. Lol

El Maiz was a delightful surprise. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was completely wrong! It is superior to many of the “Tex-Mex” and “authentic” Mexican restaurants in the Forney area.
I had the Enchiladas Rojas – they were moist, not dry, with the perfect amount of onion and cheese, dipped in that tasty guajillo sauce. The side of rice was also fresh — not dry or chewy. I also tried the Sope, which was seasoned perfectly and wonderfully tender and savory.
I highly recommend Taqueria El Maiz. These guys are a hidden gem and are about to make a name for themselves in Forney!

Carne Asada and Chicken Machete was GREAT! Fresh corn tortilla made this dish exceptionally delicious. Tacos are portioned well and meat is well seasoned. Tacos are as authentic as it gets for Forney. Already planning our next visit for next week!

Walk in, counter ordering. Somewhat Authentic Mexican food. Rice was great, chicken dry and not enough seasoning. Other menu items may be better than those with chicken. Didn’t really care for food or atmosphere.
