As someone who is Mexican and from San Diego, I’ve had a hard time finding authentic Mexican food in the MD area until now.

I was very impressed with this little spot. The chilaquiles with green sauce were delicious, and the salsas were incredibly fresh and flavorful not watered down like many places I’ve tried.

The service really stood out too. We had two toddlers with us and our server was so accommodating and attentive, even while managing multiple tables. He worked hard and made sure we had everything we needed.

Small place, big flavor, amazing service. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Absolute GEM and truly THE BEST Mexican food in the area! We went for my son’s birthday and the service was unmatched! Everyone was raving over their tacos, fajitas, the chicken soup (my god I’ve never had better)! The server was so kind and attentive. They refrigerated the birthday cake and supplied everything I needed for cake service at the end of lunch. Couldn’t be happier!

I went here for a late lunch as I generally drive by it three or four times a week. This Taqueria is an odd little place. Its saving grace is that the food is very good. The salsa is fresh and has the right spice level. I ordered the Chili Rellenos and they were huge and filling, with lots of cheese. I also got a beef taco and they fried the shell up for me. The menu is confusing and not that appealing- kind of like it was a high school Microsoft Word project. And I have no idea why there is a French chef as you come in. There was more rice in my salt shaker than salt; I don’t know whose idea that was. So overall, the food is good, but there are some aesthetic and fundamental issues that I hope they solve.

Delicious food! We had the tamal verde, mole tamal, menudo, and sopa de res. Everything was fresh and delicious. The meat/tripe in the soups were tender and the broths were very flavorful. The portions were great and those bowls were fully loaded. Everything was a great price as well! The agua de tamarindo was good, but I do prefer mine with a little more tart/sour flavor in mine. I would still order it again though. The agua de jamaica was flavorful and had a nice tartness. I like the atmosphere and the servers were friendly as well.

I really liked this cozy little restaurant in Mount Airy. Service with friendly, but seems like there are only two people work in a restaurant. Which can cause a little delay for the food to come out.
We placed our to go order 30 minutes prior to pick up, but after I arrived, I still have to wait for additional times.

Following are what we ordered:

Beef soup – delicious, perfect for the winter days, they have come with a decent amount of beef

Steak fajita – I wasn’t sure if it was due to our orders were takeout, the steak was not pre-sliced, and it was a bit hard to chew. But the flavor was on point.

Street tacos – tasty

Tamales – small, homemade style, pretty good

Drinks- they offer a variety of fresh meat juice/drinks, including Tamarine, mango, lime, and more.

Dessert- homemade flan, yum

They have very limited parking right in front of the restaurant. However, they do have a overflow parking area right next to the building, which was mainly used by enterprise rental car.
Be aware the left her out of their parking lot can be difficult given. It is a high traffic road.

Will go back for a dining in experience and give it an updated review.

This is an awesome little spot, it’s so clean and well maintained. Service was great, and the food was even better! Legit Mexican tacos, the salsa served with chips in the beginning is a must have. Overall great experience and will be back for more! The only thing I did notice is they do not have true white queso, only nacho cheese dip, nor do they sell alcohol, but do NOT let these things stop you from having a great meal.

We stopped at the Taqueria el Jalapeño after speaking to a neighbor saying they had a good experience at this restaurant. The restaurant is located just off the main road and there is parking to the side of the building. This is a Mexican restaurant with authentic Mexican food. The seating area is not large, but they have two large TVs and it can accommodate multiple guests. There is also a small outdoor area for eating outside when the weather is nicer.

We called in with a party of eight and were seated immediately when we arrived at the restaurant. We were greeted by our waitress, which brought us chips and salsa which was very good (had just the right amount of heat). There are a lot of traditional Mexican food items on the menu that are reasonably priced. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and a beef lengua (tongue) taco. The enchiladas were crispy and delicious with the verde sauce. I never had a beef lengua before; it was very tasty and I would order it again. Everyone else at the table also enjoyed their meals. One of our friends ordered a slice of tres leches cake to bring home which looked really good.

The owner named Juan, came out to ask us about our meals and the service and genuinely showed that he cared about his business. He shared one of his secret sauces with us and even gave us a take home container to try. They also brought a lot of snacks (mints and Hershey kisses) after we paid the bill, which the kids really enjoyed.

I was very impressed with this restaurant, knowing they had just opened a few months ago. The service was great and I felt extremely valued as a customer. I recommend stopping in to the Taqueria el Jalapeño if you are in the Mt. Airy area and want to try some delicious authentic Mexican food.

Pozole was great! Salsa was watery, although made fresh. Their house sauces didn’t have much heat. Overall, nice to have a legit Mexican place in town.

Update: I had their burrito and it was terrible. They put lettuce in it making it gross.

The restaurant is fun and very colorful on the inside. They offer dine in and take out. They offer a lot of authentic Mexican snacks and beverages which I really enjoy.

I had the squash blossom taco and the asada taco. The squash blossom was delicious and the asada was good but dry. The salsas brought the tacos to life. I really enjoyed the red salsa- perfectly spicy.

My son had nachos topped with asada. The asada was dry but the nachos come with plenty of toppings that make up for it.
