I’ve been to Taqueria Don Polo a handful of times now, and it’s become one of my go-to spots in Hearne. When they first opened, they were still figuring things out, but the food was always good and now the service is smooth too. The steak tacos hit every time, the pambazos are packed with flavor, and their salsa roja brings just the right amount of heat. Both the corn and flour tortillas taste fresh, portions are generous, and the prices are more than fair. It’s a casual, welcoming place that feels real, and I’m glad it’s here.

Stopped in for breakfast (8.15.25) today and found out of you order 4 breakfast tacos you get a free beverage! Place keeps getting better in my opinion.
So far so good. $3 beer, good prices, food tastes good and they serve decent portions. The fajita steak was a bit chewy but the barbacoa and chicken are delicious. Make sure you have everything when ordering to-go, first time they forgot the rice and beans.

Okay nothing special or unique and no desserts

Multiple visits later they got rid of the beans and rice that come with the taco plate instead include a weird salad. Happened multiple times for to go orders.

Also something must have changed since none of the food has any flavor or seasoning hot sauces are bland tacos became bland did they forget the salt and pepper what is going on

When I heard there was a new restaurant in town I thought great let me try it . Today was my second time going . First time couple days ago placed order to go when I got home they didn’t give me my beans or rice . Second I ordered tacos . Not a good idea from this restaurant. Barbacoa tacos had so much grease that it dripped out onto my work shirt and of course they didn’t give any napkins . Potatoe / egg tacos no taste . The tortillas needed to be cooked longer . I don’t know why they gave limes all it did was get the bag wet and things weee falling out of the bag. If you’re going to put limes in a bag at least put them in foil. That’s very unsanitary just to put them in a bag like that. I’m sorry, but I’m going to be honest If I am asked if I ever ate there before I’m going to give my honest opinion.

This is my second visit while traveling between Austin and Tyler.

First impression; this place is clean, both dining area and restrooms are spotless.

That bodes very well regarding operations. It inspires confidence for health reasons, among others, such as management.

Each time I visited was morning hours so my wife and I ordered breakfast tacos; potato, egg, and cheese and bacon, egg, and bean.

Potatoes cooked like they’re supposed to be, crispy outside, tender inside. Traditional refried beans perfectly seasoned. Fresh eggs and flour tortillas.

Tacos went very well with fresh pico de gallo and salsa roja.

Traditional chips and salsa were provided with red and green sauce. Both flavorful, tangy green salsa. Both a bit spicy just like I like it.

Tacos were hot and fresh on both visits some 6-weeks apart. That translates into consistency, which often leads to success in nurturing return customers. Like me!

Friendly, conscientious, service. Very reasonable prices for this day and age.

Their menu is limited. But still has excellent Mexican food choices sure to please any pallet.

I was pleasantly surprised when we were recognized as we entered the restaurant.

Service with a smile and obvious pleasure. It’s heartwarming to encounter a place like this one in a day where people seem detached and distant.

I absolutely recommend a visit. You will not regret it.

Fajitas were burned. We were the Only ones seated and took longer that it should have to recieve order. They do not serve tap water. You have to buy bottled water. Wife’s tacos were dry and hard corn tortillas. They did remake a half order of Fajitas which I took to go. The quality of meat was very tough. The red sauce tasted like bottled hot sauce. The green sauce was good. The server was more interested in talking to other employees than waitng on us. We keep an eye on there rating before we go back for another try. Might give breakfast a try.

Ordered a taco plate with 4 tacos with option for combos so I ordered 2 beef fajita and 2 carnitas none was fit to eat the carnitas was dried out and hard with ends of them showing how dry they were the fajita meat was over cooked being burnt from grill being to hot and were not watched to keep from scorching the meat. When asked how it was and I showed my waitress she acted unconcerned and walked off I will never return there to eat again.

Food is great in the day time, at night close to closing, double check your order. 2nd time I ordered flour tortillas on the way im to work and got corn. Only seems to be an issue slightly before closing time tho as everything is perfect every other time so I can’t take points off for that

Tasty and authentic Mexican food with reasonable prices. I recommend the rotisserie chicken mean, but there are also other interesting choices. They also have a selection of specialty dishes, aghast frescoes, Jarritos, and domestic/imported beer. They sell out quick because it is so delicious!

Tacos were terrible. Carne asada was Chewy/tough no flavor. Tortillas weren’t fresh. And the green sauce was watery and tart strange not good. The other new place in town is waaaaaaay better.
