The Coeur d’Alene Taphouse – Unchained is a uniquely situated cycling-themed bar, located near the famous Centennial Bike Trail in downtown Coeur d’Alene. With 24 microbrews and ciders on tap, a full service bar and a cycling-friendly menu, it’s open to all cyclists, hikers, beachgoers and outdoor enthusiasts. During the summer we open the front of the taphouse and offer sidewalk seating right on Sherman Avenue. There’s free parking in our bike rack and plenty of summer people-watching. We also feature a Margarita Bike that’s connected to a blender. Guests ordering our House Margaritas or blended drinks are invited to climb on the bike which powers the blender, which mixes the Margarita, that’s poured in the glass. You pedal, you drink!

We came here with some friends (party of 8). Food was great and the service was horrible. I won’t be back! Our server Derek N was not happy we wanted three separate checks. Also they put a 19 percent gratuity on my bill. I don’t recommend this place of business.

My husband and I had dinner with a couple friends here today (July 3). They were severely understaffed for being the day before a holiday in a tourist destination. We waited for an hour and a half from the time we sat to the time we got our food. For the first time in our 7 years together, my husband left his burger half eaten on his plate. He did not like the taste. One of our friends ordered spaghetti and only got one meatball on the pile, and it was undercooked. Our other friend got a burger and didn’t finish it either. He said the mushrooms on it were good but that was about it. I couldn’t tell you how my club was because there was a hair in it. They did take it off the bill for us and offered to replace it, but after waiting 45 minutes for our food, I couldn’t see spending the time. I passed on the offer. Everyone who had fries said they were amazing. The server we had was new and it was her first time working a section alone during a large rush. She was super friendly, tried her best to get her stuff done and she alone is the reason this place gets three stars instead of one. The special today was Mac and cheese trio. They were out of it. They were also out of root beer. Took 30 minutes to get a refill on our sodas. Cheese curds and the pita with hummus appetizers were good.

There was no wait, and you could seat yourself. We had our dog and were able to sit outside with him. Food was high quality and came out quick. The only issue was I asked for no ice in my drink and it came with ice. Many restaurants serve cocktails with 95% ice and 5% alcohol. This was the case here as well. Food made up for it – pizza was amazing. We have pretty major dietary restrictions and we’re able to eat here.

Never got to try the food cause we sat for 30 min without being greeted. After 30 minutes and watching people who came here after us get their orders we finally just asked for some waters and the server chillin at the bar just told us “a bunch of people got here at the same time so someone will be with you” and went back to checking her watch and chatting.

Went in on a Wednesday afternoon. Place was dead – we were the only table. Me and 5 kids. There were 8ish employees there obviously getting ready for the evening shift and stocking. Took 15 minutes for our server to show up. Gave us menus, no crayons for the kids. 15 minutes later brought waters. Never asked if we wanted anything else to drink and the waters didn’t have any ice (it was super hot out.) Finally came back to take our order. The kids were super antsy at this point but we’re all being good and sitting still because we were playing games at the table. Specifically ordered sides of ranch with 4 of the dishes. Brought food after another 25 minutes. No ranch. Asked for ranch before server left the table and asked for 4. He brought me back 4 cups of ranch that had 1/4 inch of ranch in each of them and told me that they ran out but he could go “next door” to get some if it wasn’t enough. It obviously wasn’t but I was getting irritated and just told him it was fine. We finished eating and sat around waiting for him so we could pay our bill. I had my credit card in my hand and he walked by me multiple times. I finally had to go to the bar where he was just standing around chatting with a coworker to ask to pay my bill. He was offended lol.

My wife and I have been here twice now. The first time was with a group of 8 during the Gonzaga game of March Madness and we were stoked to get a table right away. More recently, it was just the two of us for an early dinner on a Saturday, and again, we got right in.

Quiet undiscovered gem on Sherman. Great food so far. Today I ordered the Buffalo chicken Mac & cheese. Very tasty. Could have used slightly less cheese sauce, and baked it with crumbles, in my opinion, but it wouldn’t stop me from ordering it again. A very generous portion, but a touch on the spendy side for a lunch. Overall, great place, great atmosphere, surprisingly quiet for lunch, and great food. The staff were very attentive and on top of things, even while training a new hire. Definitely would come back.

I Hate to say negative things. Let me start by saying that the food was actually pretty good here and the drinks are pretty great as well. But the service was horrendous here. I watched two different tables arrive and leave and we were close to that point as well but we had started to receive our food slowly and all at separate times. We had ordered two appetizers and our kids plates way ahead of ourselves ordering our food by at least twenty minutes. Somehow the adult’s food came out first then an appetizer came out after our dinners and finally the kids food finally arrived after everyone had almost finished up with their meals. In the end they forgot about a kids meal and an appetizer and they offered to bring out food for the kid but he had filled up of our appetizer and fries. There’s a lot that could be said but at the end like I said the food was good but the service lacked all around.
