I didn’t come in with hunger so much as momentum. The kind you carry after walking downtown a bit too long, thinking a bit too much. The room absorbed it immediately. Screens glowing softly, conversations layered but not competing, the steady confidence of a place that knows exactly why people show up.
The tap list does most of the talking — wide, thoughtful, not trying to impress with quantity alone. You can tell it’s curated by people who actually drink here. Food lands firmly in comfort territory: burgers that understand balance, fries that disappear faster than expected, portions that respect the reason you came in.
What stands out isn’t any single dish, but how naturally everything fits together. You’re not rushed. You’re not forgotten. You’re allowed to stay exactly as long as the moment needs.
Taphouse isn’t a destination restaurant. It’s something more useful than that — a dependable reset. The kind of place where plans get adjusted, conversations extend, and evenings quietly improve without anyone making a big deal about it.
The patio tables are essentially on the sidewalk so that meant lots of distractions, people stopping by the table to check game and lots of noise, which is ok for people watchers like me, but for those eating and/or watching the game, not so much.
We decided to eat and I made the mistake of ordering the fish and chips. I know better having grown up in the Northeast, but it sounded good at the time. Unfortunately, the fish was incredibly greasy and had a burnt fry taste to it like it was cooked in dirty oil. The fish was also very heavy and undercooked…none of this is good, but when the waitress finally asked if everything was OK and I told her about the fish she sort of shrugged an apology but never asked if I’d like anything else or offered to take it off the bill. Also, the chips in fish and chips should be wide, thick “steak fry” type fries, not plain vanilla French fries. Oh well.
This is all too bad as the people were all very friendly and the Mariners vibe was pretty cool.
Service is always top notch. Our server today was very polite and friendly, checking in just enough to make sure we were well taken care of but never hovering. It’s clear the staff here genuinely care about their guests.
We chose to sit out on the patio and soak up some sunshine, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with both indoor and outdoor seating to fit any mood.
Overall, Taphouse continues to impress. Highly recommend for a great lunch downtown!
Taphouse lunch special CANNOT BE BEAT. Great deal, good food, good service. Seriously, those rosemary fries are insane. Tin Shed sandwich is unique and pretty dang good. Cool place, standard bar atmosphere but they have a nice indoor/outdoor thing going on for the summer. So far Taphouse is my favorite lunch in Boise!
