Came here for brunch on my birthday (also happened to be Bernie’s – the owner – Bday) was pretty much the best meal during my trip. Got the Braided Boneless Short ribs and Shrimp and it was sooo delicious! We also got the Uber pancakes which were also spot on. And Bernie was giving away free cake for her birthday so also got cake! What a perfect birthday meal! Felt so welcomed by Bernie – she came out chated with us. Definitely coming back here.

Straight to Tante’s off the plane. This place was absolutely delicious. We got the Oxtail Loco Moco and Furikake Crusted Chicken. This chicken was so crispy and flavorful. I highly recommend stopping here!!! Huge portions for a great price 🙂 Mahalo Tante’s staff!!!

This place was recommended to us by a local – highly recommend the oxtail loco moco. The halo halo was refreshing and had lots of good textures. The Rice Krispies on top were almost too crunchy though.

Best pancakes I’ve had in a long time, and certainly the best meal we had on the island. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection, including the ox tail loco moco. Service was very kind and fast – felt like eating at home. Highly recommend!!!

While in Hawaii we were looking for a meal option that was more of a local experience. We prefer not to do all the tourist things when we visit a new place. Tante’s Local Grindz delivered and then some. The staff could not have been more friendly. We were so happy with the food that the owner came out to meet us. That would be nice enough, but the food was also excellent! We ended up ordering three entrees and shared amongst the group. Everything was made fresh to order, was of the highest quality, and was excellent. Very high recommendation!

This shop felt like a hidden gem near the hustle and bustle of downtown. I got the oxtail loco moco from them, and it was amazing. Meat was perfectly cooked, garlic fried rice paired well, the gravy was delicious and the egg on top was heaven

I highly recommend the “Shrimp Sari Sari.” Pair it with garlic fried rice and mix it into the broth — the umami flavor is just irresistible, and it’s absolutely perfect for Korean taste buds.
We also enjoyed the “Braised Boneless Short Ribs and Shrimp,” which was outstanding. The meat was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned.
It’s been a while since I had such a satisfying meal on the Big Island. On top of that, the staff were extremely friendly, making the whole dining experience even better.

This was an amazing lunch! The oxtail soup was incredible and the portions were so big you definitely won’t leave hungry. It was so, so good. Oxtail meat melting off the bone, flavorful broth and yummy veggies.

I stumbled upon Tante’s Local Grindz and I’m so glad I did!! It’s definitely very unassuming, but don’t sleep on it! I got the Furikake Chicken and it was a flavor bomb! The chicken was moist and it wasn’t greasy. It came with some garlic fried rice, potato mac salad and a water for 18$. It very well could have been enough for 2 meals but I was hungry! Bernie (the owner) was so kind and shared that these were recipes are from her grandmother and she tweaked them just a little. If any one wants some authentic Filipino or Hawaiian food, this is the place. Fantastic and kind employees as well! I’ll definitely be back!
