I love this restaurant so much. It has quickly become a Chicago favorite because of the incredible menu, very fresh high quality fish, wonderful people who run the place, and excellent vibes. They have an awesome happy hour too! Can not recommend this spot enough truly a gem!! Favorites are the bluefin maki and the salmon avo roll with white miso sauce and crispy capers!

Had an amazing dinner at Tanoshi in the West Loop! The sushi was super fresh with the perfect rice-to-fish ratio and you can tell the quality right away. This was my second time here and it’s just as good as the first. Definitely becoming a regular spot for me.

Our servers, Dave and Michelle, were awesome, super friendly and really know their stuff. And shoutout to the chefs, Hiram and Cliff, for making everything perfect. Came here with my best friend for our reunion and it couldn’t have been a better night.

Highly recommend!

Tanoshii Sushi in West Loop is easily one of my favorite sushi spots in Chicago! If you’re craving high-quality, fresh, and creative sushi, this is the place to be.

The Chef’s Special is what makes Tanoshii extra special—you never know exactly what you’re getting, but it’s always amazing. You just tell the chef what you like (and don’t like), and they work their magic. Every time, it’s something fresh, flavorful, and beautifully put together.

We also tried the Greentea Apple Mocktail, but honestly, I wasn’t a fan—the flavors just didn’t mix the way I hoped. That said, their happy hour is solid, so there are plenty of other drinks and bites to enjoy at a great price.

Pro tip: Make a reservation! This place fills up fast, especially during peak hours, so don’t risk the wait. The service is always great, and the cozy, welcoming vibe makes it perfect for a fun night out.

I don’t even know where to start–every single dish we tried was absolutely incredible! I’m not kidding when I say this is my favorite sushi restaurant ever, and that’s a bold statement coming from me.
We went all in with the full omakase experience, and it was phenomenal:
* Scallops
* Fish and Chips (trust me, this is an experience.)
* Bluefin Tuna served with radish and avocado – pro tip: make sure each bite includes both for the perfect flavor balance.
* 8 pieces of sashimi
* Salmon and avocado rolls
And then there were the off-menu items–do yourself a favor and ask for these:
* “The Pepper”
* Fatty Tuna Roll
Desserts: black sesame, and red bean.
For drinks, we loved the Red Panda and Insult to Injury–both were fantastic.
A huge shoutout to Michelle, our server. She was wonderful–attentive, knowledgeable, and gave great tips on how to enjoy each dish as it came out. The restaurant itself is beautiful: cozy yet upscale, elegant without feeling stuffy.
We will absolutely be back–again and again!

Honestly one of the best spots on Randolph. Extremely polite, homey feel and top-notch sushi. Their prices are so reasonable compared to the other pompous restaurants on the street.

I probably go once a quarter minimum. It’s consistent and always hits the spot.

Cheers to coming back in a few weeks!

I’ve had my eye on this place for years. My boyfriend and I moved across the street from it over a year ago, and we just recently tried it last month. This place is overlooked, probably by many, just like it was by me. I always thought it was some mediocre sushi place where you’ll find your typical Americanized rolls. I was SO WRONG.

I’ve lived in the city for about 8 years now, and I am not lying when I tell you that this restaurant is top 3 on my list for sushi spots. The fish here is actually really high quality and tastes absolutely delicious (it’s imported from Spain so makes sense). It tastes so fresh, which is hard to come by in the city.

If the food wasn’t enough for how amazing this place is, the staff and service is top tier. The quality of food and the service there will have you thinking you’re getting Michelin star quality.

Talk to your server about the things you like/dislike and they will point you in the right direction of what to get, and will even make accomodations with their special rolls based on what you like.

Tanoshii has great fresh fish options if you’re into it. The fish and chips is amazing. Their non-traditional take on the rolls is something worth trying where the chef takes some creative liberty and uses ingredients that are rarely used in sushi rolls. We went for the full omakase with chef’s recommendations. While the flavors hit the right marks, it would’ve been nice to have a bit more variety in the rolls.

We went here for restaurant week and it was definitely worth it. This was by far our favorite meal we’ve had this month. All the fish was so fresh, and the flavors from the sauces all worked so well with each other. The mochi ice cream and the cocktails were also great. The service was top notch. We’ll definitely be back again.

2025 Edit: I went here again last year and was not as impressed anymore. I no longer think it’s the best sushi in Chicago, it’s pretty good but the last times I went it didn’t taste as good as it used to. Tasted less fresh.

(Old Review)This is by far the best sushi in Chicago hands down. My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place by chance and fell in love with it. Then we couldn’t figure out where we had gone for a while and found it again and their menu had changed slightly but it was still the delicious sushi place we had been to before. The fish there is just so fresh tasting. The combinations of flavors they put in their rolls are amazing. I absolutely love this place and we go back there at least once every time my boyfriend is in town. HIGHLY recommend.

this is one of the best sushi spots in chicago. all the ingredients are super fresh and delicious. their specialty rolls are unique and bring bold, interesting, and really amazing flavors together taking a more modern approach to traditional sushi. we especially liked the fish and chips- sorta like spicy tuna crispy rice but on a massive tortilla chip instead of the rice. everything was reasonably priced and i will definitely will be returning here soon.
