Title: Monumental Fall from Grace**

You know the rule: restaurants deserve two chances. Even if you didn’t like it the first time, maybe the stars misaligned. And if you *did* like it the first time, you go back to see if greatness was a fluke or a pattern. Well, Tanoshi Sushi, you were once a rising star. Now you’re the cosmic disaster that burned out before the second act.

Let’s set the scene: a Friday evening, dining room packed, two servers for the entire place. TWO. The atmosphere was less “fine dining” and more “bureaucratic DMV line.” We waited, and waited… and then waited some more. By the time we ordered, I could’ve sworn the fish had already swum upriver, spawned, retired, and applied for Social Security.

The sushi: oh dear. We went with the classics—Rainbow roll, Negi Hamachi—simple, dependable staples. Instead, what arrived tasted like someone rolled damp Kleenex around old rice and called it art. Flavorless. Lifeless. Like eating the memory of sushi rather than sushi itself. I had the creeping suspicion that if you don’t pony up for their $28 “signature” rolls, they just punish you with edible punishment-sludge as revenge.

Onward to hibachi. Salmon and scallops. Now, hibachi should be sizzling, smoky, theatrical. Instead, we got… salmon jerky and scallop erasers. The broccoli? Raw, as if it was still considering whether it wanted to be cooked in this lifetime. The fried rice? Lukewarm. Hibachi without heat is like karaoke without microphones—pointless, tragic, and vaguely embarrassing.

The pièce de résistance? I asked for noodles instead of rice. They “didn’t have noodles.” A Japanese restaurant. Without noodles. That’s not just an oversight—that’s a felony. And to rub salt into the soy sauce, they had *udon soup* on the menu. You mean to tell me you’ve got noodles floating in broth somewhere in the back but you refuse to sauté them with hibachi? That’s culinary entrapment. That’s betrayal. That’s a war crime against carbohydrates.

In the end, what we paid for wasn’t dinner. It was disrespect. A slap in the face disguised as food. Tanoshi Sushi, you went from a promising encore to a comedy of errors, and not even the funny kind. This wasn’t just a miss—it was the culinary equivalent of slipping on a banana peel, falling off stage, and taking the curtain down with you.

Final verdict: wasted money, disrespected palates, and a performance I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. Not coming back. Not ever.

Really enjoyed my sushi experience at Tanoshi Sushi!
The vibe is cozy, the staff are super nice, and the food is fresh and tasty!

Loved the seared tuna salad, and the fish & chips were surprisingly good. Definitely a spot I’d come back to when craving sushi.

My mom was sick so I ask my niece to buy shrimps and vegetables tempura, but this is what tempura’s?? Looks like. I thought it was from grocery food corner, but it’s a restaurant!! I have no words to say just disappointed and embarrassed this is not quality of restaurant food I was going to throw away, but I tried to let them know so I call restaurant manager, he haven’t call me back yet. The texture of oil what they used it seems like hadn’t been changed in a month?! 3 other foods were just okay but these tempura worst food ever I never ever seen tempura like this before now time to throw in the trash

Good sushi spot in Andersonville. The food was fresh and tasty, staff were friendly, and the omakase was worth trying. The Tanoshi Special Sushi was a highlight. I’d come back.

Looks like any other sushi place. Got a friendly welcome. Sat right away. There were only 2 tables, surprisingly. The renegade craft fair was happening.

Nice small menu selection. Sushi was good. Surprised the nigiri was so overpriced. But was good. The lunch special was interesting. The fried rice tasted like black pepper, missing a lot of seasoning, didn’t finish. The hibachi chicken was salty, missing the habachi flavor. Service was scarce.

Don’t let the mediocre presentation fool you because despite the way they slice and roll, sashimi dinner and wasabi roll surprised us with it’s freshness. Recommend sticking with the special rolls because wasabi roll was just way better than the rainbow or chicago roll. Seared tuna was ok and it looked much better than it tasted. Mixed flavors with sesame oil never gave us the wow sensation.

Service was awesome.
Byob charge is 3 per person.
They have a strict way of eating the special rolls without soy sauce or ginger.
