This is the perfect place to go after a paddle, hike, climb or bike on the plateau! The food is top notch, it’s in a beautiful historic building & the staff could not be nicer. The food is freshly made, delicious, it came out quickly & there was no wait for seating. Try the pork rinds & onion rings…wow!

It’s one of those small town jewels. Those old soda shops have been part of the community forever. Well worth the 30-minute detour. 911 and Military get a discount too.

Food: The menu is limited to burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. They do have salads for the weirdos..
Burgers: Hand pressed patties. No frozen pre-made meat here. Thick and juicy just like they should be. The buns were cold, but I’ll forgive them that. But a toasted bun would have made it next level.
Onion Rings: Deliciousness. Probably the best I have had in a while. No old grease taste, well cooked and seasoned.
Fries: They were fries…. ♂️
Dessert: Unfortunately, we were too full to indulge.

Great food and service. It was quiet when I arrived in the early evening on a Friday. Would recommend both the pimento cheese burger with sweet potato fries and the brownie Sunday.

For outdoor loving couples, get up early and do a two hour hike along nearby Obed or in Frozen Head State park (great hiking). Work up an appetite and then go to Tanner’s for breakfast (or lunch). Perfect start to a day. Simple menu of classic southern breakfast items. CLEAN, historic and charming. Wish this place was in Kingston where I live as I would be there every Saturday AM and probably go back for ice cream in the evening. Bathroom (CLEAN) has a shower and explains it used to be for miners to shower and now is there for Cumberland Trail hikers to use. Historic items throughout store. High ceiling, very neat,unassuming place I am certain most people bypass not knowing this gem is right there in tiny downtown Wartburg.

#We3Neals had a wonderful time visiting Tanners Historic Cafe in Wartburg, TN. What a fantastic place! The history is simply amazing, and we love it when families and cities take the time to preserve that history and then pass along the story!
The atmosphere is nostalgic and inviting. The staff was fabulous, helpful, and welcoming. The food was exactly as expected … delicious!
Collectively, we ate the Tanners Club, The Hillbilly Dog & The Bacon Cheeseburger. All were very tasty, and came out promptly.
This is a must stop spot if you’re in the area or if you live close, make sure to drop in and support them.

My sister and I took a drive to Frozen Head only to find out the road by the falls was closed for construction. I hadn’t been to Wartburg in many years so we decided to check out their Hammer’s store and find something to eat. We found a gem. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the building. The burgers were top tier and the atmosphere was so inviting. We will certainly return and recommend!!!

The banana split I ordered went beyond expectations as well. Hands down that was the best one I’ve ever had and if you’ve never had one the only thing you will regret is not ordering one from here. This is the best thing about Wartburg, TN and if you are traveling I hope you stop in. They have an overwhelming friendly environment making you feel just like one of the family and they take really care of your dining needs. For just a small town family owned restaurant you sure meet the 5 star restaurant standards in my book.
