This place is big, modern and clean. The foods are fresh and have many variation of choices. The price is $16.99/ lbs, so it will depend on how heavy it is. They serve water, lemon tea and dessert for free. The desser is good. If you have a leftover, you can grab the to go box that they prepare on the counter.
If you come early maybe easy to find parking but if it”s dinner hour, kind of full.

Food is made fast but you might wait for a table during the rush hour. They don’t offer many options for sauces but still is good. Although there are many people inside, it doesn’t take too long to find an open table. I like how they utilized the screen to show when your food is ready so you don’t need to hear workers screaming the order number. Tried seschzwan spicy hot pot and it was really good

This restaurant has a nice environment and a great variety of fresh ingredients, and overall I really enjoy coming here. However, about half of the times I visit, I end up waiting for a long time, even when the restaurant isn’t busy.
I’m not familiar with their cooking process, but whenever the wait is long, the mala tang often comes out with many ingredients overcooked to the point that they fall apart and can’t even be picked up. I hope the restaurant can improve the cooking time or consistency so the overall experience can be even better.

Quite an experience if you have not tried a mala bar. This is NOT to be confused with an all you can eat (AYCE) restaurant, but rather a build your own meal and eat it with broth or without broth.
You can easily go overboard by ‘eating with your eyes’ but just remember the price you pay is based by weight and the base starts at $15.99 per lb. You can easily walk away with a $40 bowl if you are not careful.
Once you select your proteins and veggies, you have your choices of carbs, primarily different kinds of noodle types and finally you get to decide if you want it in a soup or dry and you can pick the level of spiciness. Hand your bowl over, you get a receipt with your number and monitor the teleprompter board for your number. Then you return to the front counter and pick up your bowl.
The restaurant is brightly lit and open and airy. You also have the option of sitting outside on the patio–which is 4th Ave, but plant boxes separate the diners from the pedestrians. It’s definitely a fun experience and worth checking out.

I’ve been here twice. The food and atmosphere are good, but unfortunately, the hygiene is poor. I found a hair on my plate twice. The first time, I didn’t say anything because the food was really delicious, but then I gave it a second try and came back a week later, and on my second visit, I found another hair. What a bad luck. I hope they take this messages into consideration and take action.

UPDATE: lower to two stars due to hygiene issue. I found a small piece of paint ( or manicure ) from the food when I visited on July 2025. But, the food is good anyway. ( added the photo )
The food was decent, but I’m not sure the price is justified. The best part is the ability to customize your meal—you can even build your own ramen. I’d like to try that next time.
What I didn’t like, however, was the limited seating and the way they stack the stainless steel bowls from customers before cooking. While the food is fully cooked at high temperatures, there’s no guarantee about what might be on the bowls that could end up in your dish.
In summary, I love the option to customize my meal, but the price feels a bit steep considering the self-seating arrangement and concerns about hygiene.

Fully customizable personal-sized hot pot experience in downtown San Mateo. You pay by the weight of your food, so you can choose your own mix of meats, seafood, tofu, noodles, veggies, and then choose a soup base and they will cook it for you. The food selection was a lot more diverse than expected. Clean dining area and efficient service. Finding a parking spot can be challenging, especially during the weekends.

Came here for a lunch date and it was our first time at their San Mateo location. The interior is so modern and it has a homey few to it with all the plants. I love that you can choose whatever you want and make your own bowl of noodle or it can just be all toppings! They have a variety of drinks as well.

Decent malatang overall. Nice seating, a bit slower than some other places, fully self serve unlike some other ones. Broth was decent, but wish you could get your own condiments (green onions, cilantro, garlic, etc) rather than having to ask them.

The enoki mushrooms were moldy and had turned a bluish-green color, which is completely unsafe to eat. It was shocking to see produce in this condition being sold. I hope the store pays more attention to the freshness and quality of their products, because this should not happen
