Reviews
My favorites were the Brussels sprouts, best salad, and grilled mushrooms
While prices are about the same as regular sushi, the ingenious marinades, sauces, and fresh ingredients give an almost authentic experience that you can’t even tell you’re not eating real fish.
Honestly, I even enjoyed their version of the Philadelphia Roll even more.
The baker with the torched miso was probably my favorite roll but they all sound delicious and probably taste just as good.
Service is smooth with little interaction with the server and the small room has a cozy interior.
Tane Vegan Izakaya in Berkeley is a must-visit if you’re into innovative and flavorful vegan Japanese cuisine. It’s a small, cozy spot with limited seating, so I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time.
We tried two specialty rolls — the Point Reyes and the Barbers. The Point Reyes definitely brings the heat! The habanero sauce adds a serious kick, so it’s not for the faint of heart — but if you love spice, you’ll enjoy it. The Barbers roll was a fun surprise — only one piece had the spicy sauce, so it turned into a playful little sushi roulette!
The Avocado Nigiri was simple and delicious, and we ended the meal with the Yuzu Vegan Cheesecake, which was absolutely phenomenal — citrusy, creamy, and perfectly balanced.
Overall, Tane delivers an exceptional vegan sushi experience. Whether you’re vegan or not, it’s well worth the visit!
Miso soup ($3) – light, hot, perfect for a chilly evening in Berkeley. Warms up your insides and your soul
Kailua ($16) – my favorite out of the two rolls I had. Such a good mix of sweet and tangy. I really loved the pickled mango.
The Wedge ($17) – crispy rice topped with spicy tofu that honestly tasted really similar to real spicy tuna, just without the fishy taste (which I do like, don’t get me wrong).
My friend and I made reservations online & arrived about an hour early but they still seated us, which was very accommodating. We were put in the corner of the bar, which was a little cramped and awkward but we still had enough space. Service was very attentive, with constant water refills. Great time overall and so much fun getting to see my pal! 🙂
The place is generally very crowded so make sure to make reservations before visiting.
The restaurant is very small has a cute likeable ambience. The service is slow but the servers are helpful and friendly. The food options are very expensive for the qty they serve but worth a try once. It’s in the downtown Berkeley area so finding a parking spot is hard.
