It tasted like my vietnamese grandparents were cooking. Very fresh, quality, beautiful, authentic dishes. Everything tasted like my family (from vietnam) cooks. Perfect authentic flavors. Bahn xeo was perfect in every way (don’t be afraid to get a little messy eating this). The shrimp spring rolls were fresh and the classic dipping sauce was spot on. The banh mi is probably the LARGEST bahn mi I’ve seen in the city. The staff were very pleasant and friendly but…. the interior was cold (temperature and looks) and not somewhere you’d want to spend a lot of time. Also was hard to get the attention of the server sometimes especially when trying to leave.

this is my new favorite vietnamese restaurant in pittsburgh. the chicken pho was the best i’ve ever had, and the limeade was sooooo good. the service is prompt and friendly too. not only that, but it’s in a great location and is a quick bus ride from pitt/cmu. love this place!

Just moved here and have been looking for a great pho spot comparable to the places we have in the New York Metropolitan area. Crispy pork rolls were delicious and piping hot, the beef pho portions were HUGE and so good. The broth on its own was delectable. Service was quick and the lady there was so sweet and kind. Will definitely be coming back!

Squirrel Hill is one of those neighborhoods where I’m still finding delicious places that I have walked past, but never fully noticed and Tan Lac Vien is one of them. The storefront is unassuming in the interior is relatively basic, but the food is excellent and the service is kind and attentive.
My friends and I stopped here for a quick dinner and among the usual Vietnamese suspects such as banh mis and pho were some delicious unique dishes that you don’t find in most places.
If I had to complain about anything it would just be that I wasn’t asked how spicy I wanted my food and I’m guessing that’s probably because I look like your average white boy who’s afraid of spice, but the truth is I love my food as hot as I can get it. Still the food was very flavorful and there are sauces at the table so that you can add your own touches of hoisin or Sriracha. Also, the prices are a touch steep, but you are getting quality food so I really can’t complain about that.
We will definitely be going back here many times. It is certainly a gem among all of the fantastic Asian restaurants that are already within Squirrel Hill!

Stopped here for lunch and was not disappointed! We shared the shrimp fresh rolls which were tasty and refreshing. The dipping sauce was delicious. Following, we had the stir fried yellow curry noodles and the roast pork pho. Both were well seasoned, flavorful and extremely generous portions. Service was friendly and prices are very affordable.

I was working in the area and was talking with the owner which is a pretty solid guy. I had the best Curry Chicken there and have been craving it since. And they had a wide range and variety of different food there as well as Pho which im definitely trying next time I go there. Thier portions are huge and the taste is so good. You wanna keep eating it and bust your belly. If your in Murray Ave. This is the go to place on that strip there if your craving Vietnamese food and good quality food. Please try! Highly recommended ❤️❤️

Overall decent Pho, the broth was flavorful and the portion was big.
I also had steamed dumplings and pork wraps. Both came with accompanying sauces.
Other than brining my main meal right after receiving my appetizer this place is decent.
Not sure if I’d return.

Pittsburgh’s BEST VIETNAMESE. A cozy eatery with very pleasant wait staff who actually know the food/menu. In several visits, I (and friends) have enjoyed all the fares.
Start with either fresh rolls, pork spring rolls, and/or lemongrass tofu; dipping sauces range from sweet/lime with dash of fish sauce to silken chili/rice wine vinegar to the run of the mill Siracha to Vietnamese Hoisin sauce.
For those who love veggies, the exquisite Lotus salad is fantastic. It comes with a lovely lime vinaigrette that livens the veggies and shrimp.
There’s a great selection of Pho, all are great, the broths are very flavorful with a consistency resembling a French consommé which may be heated up to one’s capsicum tolerance (I recommend dashes of red & green fresh chilies). My favorite: made to order Veggie Pho in beef broth (Wow).
Then there’s the selection of vermicelli wraps. Again, any on the list is excellent. But I’m partial to the Banh Xeo, a magnificent Vietnamese crepes stuffed with pork and shrimp. It comes with a tray of fresh veggies and leaves of Romaine lettuce to wrap pieces of the crepes and veggies. Spoon on the sauce, and enjoy the delicate flavors and various textures.
Prices are very reasonable!

I got the beef pho ($15) and it was very good! They gave our table tons of bean sprouts which I appreciated. The pork egg rolls ($7) were also tasty. Our waiter was extremely nice and came back to check on our table frequently. I would definitely come back again. The only downside was that it was a little warm inside and I think if it was a hotter day outside it would’ve been pretty hot. If you go in the wintertime, though, the temperature shouldn’t be a problem.

Great food! We are not of vietnamese origin so we cannot attest to the authenticity, but we loved the pho and the crispy dumplings. The flavors are rich and aromas are plenty.
