Very disappointed. I bought chicken tamales and they are raw and dried. It didn’t have any green or red sauce–no flavor at all. For the price of one tamal $3.50 each it’s not worth the buy.

It’s a hit and miss these days but they’re still very good when you catch them on a good day. Up till now I’ve not had a bad experience there. I’ve been going since I lived in El Monte and me ex even used to work there way before I even met her. They’re always delicious for me and I frequent them constantly. Green tamales are still my favorite.

Food is good but…… They can’t keep up with demand, specially during the seasons. It’s a let down they don’t specify to pre order. You can’t be a tamaleria and not have tamales! It’s better to go to long standing reliable restaurant in El Monte and get your tamales.

Red tamales were very moist and delicious . As for the corn was ok. Masa only, no corn mixed with the masa. Had some corn taste. I will be back to try the other ones. Haven’t been here in about 6 months because of the tamale quality & rudeness.

I have to respectfully disagree with the previous reviewer, Jay B., as my recent experience at Tamaleria Maria’s was completely positive, contrasting with the issues they described. I was particularly impressed with the friendly and helpful service provided by the young woman working at the front counter. Despite what appeared to be a busy period @9 am, she remained incredibly patient, kind, and willing to assist me with my order. Her positive attitude truly enhanced my entire visit, and because of her excellent service, I will absolutely be returning to Tamaleria Maria’s 🙂

In my opinion from what I’ve experienced, the woman who was cashier was rude. Maybe it was just a bad day I caught her on but she had attitude. Maybe welcoming in a better mood will want customers to return back. Also the tamales I ordered weren’t cooked well. The masa was raw and the mole didn’t have flavor. The champurrado was more like hot chocolate, it wasnt thick how I’ve had it at other places, and it was very sweet. I expected better and I drove about an hour to get there.

As someone who would make the drive from Pomona to El Monte for the ORIGINAL Maria’s bakery tamales since the 90s. I would STRONGLY disagree with Jackey Lopez. As I would with any other business under new ownership, I have gone there multiple times and was met with the same result each time. The atmosphere is no longer the same and on several occasions the workers have been very rude. I was there the morning the reviewer Jay B is referencing to, and can say that the employee was being very rude. I myself was a bit confused and needed more clarification. She stated there were only 3 red pork tamales left, which led me and others to think the only other choices available were green pork, green chicken, and cheese. When the reviewer Jay B asked for clarification, the employee did in fact raise her voice, and again repeated the same thing, but this time her tone was more aggressive. It’s very disappointing as a customer that even asking a simple question the EMPLOYEE has the audacity to speak to any customer in that way. As a business owner myself, I would highly recommend training your employees with customer service etiquette. Having employees who are attentive, empathetic, understanding and who have excellent communication skills will prosper your business, instead of losing business and having customers turn away.

I’ve heard good things about the original place and I finally went to try it even though I was told it was under new ownership. I arrived around 10:30am hoping to try some tamales. The person in the counter had a very bad attitude. I didn’t appreciate her tone of voice when saying that they ran out of tamales and only had “3 red pork” left. I tried to ask for clarification and she raised her voice, gave me attitude, and again only repeated there were only 3 pork left. I asked for clarification if there were other types of tamales left and she cutt me off when I was trying to ask. I feel like the employee needs to be re-trained on her customer service skills and communication skills. This is my first experience here and I will not support the business.

I heard about this place having very good tamales by my best friends grandma and they didn’t disappoint especially because the tamales are done fresh daily and were very delicious. We order a dozen of the green sauce pork tamales and a dozen of the red sauce and pork tamales and they were both very delicious. The girl in the front was also very sweet in helping us order since it was our first time there. If you need a place to get your tamales, this is the place. Great food and outstanding service. I definitely recommend everyone to visit.
