Tamale Boy has evolved into a food truck catering and restaurant business with three Portland brick and mortar locations. Soltero Jr. and his team aim for Tamale Boy to be a fun and approachable dining option that is affordable for everyone. Tamale Boy offers a sseasonally changing menu designed to highlight cuisine from various regions throughout Mexico. I saw the price first and cringed a little. Then I thought about average tamale size and ordered two despite being a little pricier than expected. I only ate one because they are easily three times the size of the average tamale and well worth the (what I now see as) affordable price. The flavor is on point, the filling to masa ratio is perfect (I like heavy on the filling), and the people behind the counter are super friendly. Do yourself a favor and order enough to take home. These tamales are the shiz!

Post-hike munchies after Mt. Talbert led us straight to Tamale Boy (Happy Valley) and WOW—we’re in love. The al pastor nachos were crispy, cheesy, spicy perfection. The chile verde and tinga tamales were cozy little flavor bombs.
Service was super friendly, vibes were chill, and honestly? This might be our new ritual. Tamales + trees + a little weed = heaven.

I hired Tamale Boy to cater an event for us. The food was delicious! It was ready and hot for our event and everyone raved about how good it was. It was also very affordable and they were quick to respond to emails. (The chips and salsa in the photo were purchased from an outside source).

This place was recommended by a family member and I must say I was mildly surprised, the place is clean the atmosphere is welcoming and best of all the food is pretty dam good, we had the tamales Verde with a order of refried beans and chips plus a pepperoni pizza and a couple of coconut and strawberry smoothies to wash it all down with, I can honestly say the service provided the our server Lorenzo was excellent but its the food at a good price that’ll keep us coming back, all together I think we spent around 35.00 for this feast, not bad at all.
