Talk of the Mountain Crab Cakes in Front Royal, VA, is an absolute gem! The service was excellent from the moment I walked in—warm, welcoming, and attentive. But the real star of the show? The crab cakes. These are truly some of the BEST I’ve ever had. They’re jumbo lump, no filler, and bursting with incredible flavor. Even better, they are so affordable. They were so good that I went back the very next day just to get more!
The sides are just as impressive—the mac and cheese and collard greens were absolute highlights and paired perfectly with the crab cakes. Everything tasted homemade, seasoned with care, and served with pride.
I can’t wait to go back. It’s so good that the one-hour drive is completely worth it. If you’re anywhere near Front Royal, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won’t be disappointed!

Let me tell you something here! This place smelled amazing when I walked in, I ordered the Crab cake super platter. It came with hush puppies and 2 sides, I got soul slaw and southern cheesy Mac. This food was carefully prepared and is absolutely delicious! The crab has just enough to hold it together, the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the hush puppies are perfect. Found this place on accident, I will be talking about this place for a while!

UPDATE: added pic of crab-cake sandwich and mac&cheese. Both were delicious. Hardly any filler in crab-cake, if any, I couldn’t tell. One of the best crab-cakes I’ve eaten. Mac&cheese could have been browned on top a little more, but the seasoning was spot on. I must also say that the prices are really reasonable. My price was in that range because I ordered two dishes.

First time at this location. Traveled 40 mins. Ordered the fried shrimp and the crab-cake sandwich. At the time of this post, I only tasted a little piece of the crab-cake. The crab-cake sandwich meal was inclusive of mac&cheese. I can say that there is not much filler in the crab-cake. There is a lot of crab meat in it!! The mac & cheese had good flavor. It was southern branded and again I only tasted it. I have not eaten it yet, but I will update this post, w/pics, when I dive into the mac & cheese and the crab-cake sandwich.

However, the shrimp were phenomenal!! Great size and seasoned really well. Customer service at the counter was a little bleak. When I asked for cutlery, I was pointed to a corner to grab my own cutlery. Instead of it being placed in the bag with a Togo order. The food was prepared when ordered, so everything was freshly made.

The establishment is small and quaint nothing fancy. I am huge on hygiene and so I stood and watched as food was being prepared. The young ladies in the kitchen diligently changed their food preparation gloves every time they worked with a different food item. I thought that was really great! The kitchen appeared to be clean enough and well organized. If you’re looking for great Southern flavored seafood and you don’t mind riding to Front Royal, I think this might be the spot for you. Would I visit again? Most definitely!!

Talk of the mountain sits in a little nook that’s easy to miss right next to the Front Royal cinema. My wife and I had the crab cake sandwich with fries and hush puppies. The crab cake was fantastic and entirely made of crab meat, no fillers. The hush puppies were hot, crisp on the outside, and soft and flavorful on the inside. If you enjoy good seafood, make sure to stop in. The prices are a little high for lunch, but truthfully, you get what you pay for. You could probably find a cheaper crab cake somewhere else, but you’ll be paying for bread crumbs. Must try Front Royal restaurant.

Definitely a hole in the wall but it was so delicious!! The crab cakes don’t use filler so you’re getting all meat. The lobster roll was to die for. The Mac n cheese has a gooey smokey flavor. The hush puppies are perfection. The coleslaw is too. Everything is made to order.

It’s a local hole in the wall. The best there is. I first came here 2.5 years ago while on a drive from DC. This time I was on a motorcycle ride from Wisconsin to WV and was only a 2 hour ride away from where I was staying. We arrived and left in 97 degree weather but it was worth it.

I had the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich and Southern Cheesy Mac. Delicious!!!! It was just as delicious as the first time. Lightly breaded shrimp cooked to perfection laying on top of the creamy Cole slaw and topped with the spicy aioli. I’m making myself hungry again but I’m now in Indiana on the way home.

I’ll see you next time I’m in the area.
