Super cute and cozy little place. The food was AMAZING haven’t had something so good in a while. The staff were very hospitable and friendly. The food is so worth the price, just thinking about it is making my mouth salivate!

Food was great, service was fast. Catch the happy hour from 5-6. Highly recommend all rolls we ordered (Snow White, Fire Ball, and Christmas).

No complaints! Food was well priced for what it is, not cheap, but definitely not expensive compared to similar restaurants. The atmosphere is very nice, and there are outdoor seating accommodations too. Menu has a great variety of appetizers and rolls.
The vegetable udon was good. Chicken karaage was more like typical fried chicken, but still yummy. Accompanying sauce was slightly odd though. Agedashi tofu was good, the portion size was much larger than expected! Could’ve used more broth, however. Shrimp tempura was perfect! Chawanmushi was also good, but slightly expensive.

We had a great experience here. We started with the four piece oyster appetizer, which was incredibly fresh and a perfect way to begin the meal. Highly recommend starting here. I ordered the 10 piece sashimi combo where the chef selects the fish, and every piece was outstanding. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We also had the salmon don, which was delicious. We’ll definitely be back.

Went with a coworker this past week and it was such a great find. The service was amazing and sushi rolls were fresh, flavorful, and just plain mouthwatering. I’m going each and every time I’m visiting.

I ordered a veggie roll and it was unique and really good.

I still am thinking about the hamachi.

The oyster appetizer was just perfect. They prepared it in such an elegant manor.

Takumi has taken over the old Seiya location. They have minimal changes to the interior which is good because Seiya really excelled with the atmosphere and the dark theme. It really comes across as a high-end, not your noisy comfort food Japanese diner type of establishment. Also, I welcome Takumi trying to land the high-end sushi scene (not omakase) in San Carlos cause we desperately need more in the Peninsula.

Unfortunately, Takumi is making the same exact mistake that brought that Seiya. The taste and quality of the food and sushi does not justify its price. They are on par with regular Japanese restaurants and admittedly, some of the nigiris are made with a bit more care and love. We sat at the sushi bar and observed the chef put his best efforts. But again, it just doesn’t justify the price. Also, some of the ingredients may not be the freshest. Don’t get me wrong, the food overall is good. But not at that price point.

The other sense of confusion was around whether Takumi was going for the traditional nigiris or a bit of fusion. I always welcome creativity but with a theme or philosophy. At Takumi, there’s a bit of confusion in the air. Some were progressive while others were traditional. Every one of them were presented beautifully but again, the consistency in quality and balance of flavors is quite off.

The two of us had a few pieces of nigiri (the more expensive ones), a few appetizers, and regular sake and beer. The bill came out to be $280. At those levels, you aren’t quite Bay Area omakase levels but still pushing the boundaries against high-end steak houses.

Service was amazing. We had a good time. We just hope they can tighten up the kitchen.

Definitely between 4-5 star rating. Food was really good, service was great. Happy hour specials are a nice cost saver. A little tight on seating, but almost makes it more authentic if you’ve ever eaten in Japan

Absolutely stunning omakase box—nine compartments of pure sushi bliss! Everything was ultra-fresh and beautifully presented, from buttery hamachi and sweet scallops to creamy uni with ikura. The oysters with quail egg were unforgettable. A must-try for anyone who loves sushi done with true artistry.

cute presentation, very welcoming service, but food is just ok

Really fresh sushi, not a wide selection of tuna type rolls, more salmon dominate. However, everything we ate was very good and the service was lovely.
