There were three lunch omakase options available that day, and we went with the sashimi nigiri lunch. The course started with miso soup, followed by a sashimi appetizer, then 8 pieces of nigiri and a temaki. We even got ice cream at the end. It doesn’t look like a lot, but it was surprisingly filling.
The omakase was served in a separate room that seats around 10 people (I think?). Service was attentive throughout, servers constantly checked in to make sure everything was okay and we enjoyed every part of the experience, even the lady at the door was super friendly. At $55, it’s an insane deal. No super high-end fish obviously, but the experience and setting alone make it more than worth it. Highly recommend!!
Service is excellent
From greeting us upon arrival to taking us to our booth for Sukiyaki, to ensuring we had enough tea etc
Staff did an excellent job with prepping our sukiyaki meal from explaining how the veg and beef is layered and how long to cook it before eating, in a very courteous, took the time to explain in a very pleasing tone (some places the instructions are just to harsh)
Family loved the Angus and Wagyu meal combo as it gave them chance to see, taste and enjoy the differences..and the Angus beef is really good but the “certified” Wagyu is a level above with its buttery texture.
The veg, nappa, tofu, and noodles, especially the knotted noodles, were very fresh and accompanied the meat well.
I had the omakase lunch and appetizers, tempura was done very well and the batter was not excessively thick. The steamed egg was so flavorful with its shrimp, fish cake slice etc pieces.
Sashimi pieces were fresh, salmon tasted like salmon, hamachi, etc were all good
but I felt the pieces were average in size.
I think sushi was better than sashimi ..as it each piece had the right amount of rice for each fish. For example the scallops tasted like scallops (some places they are like rubber and no taste), handroll was the right portion of rice to fish …and the uni is unbelievable fantastic.. arguably best ever… I forgot what the other pieces were.
Dessert was very goodm. Black sesame ice cream is a tad sweet for me while the Macha ice cream is velvety smooth and you can taste the macha.
So, this is must visit for high quality Sukiyaki and omakase.
Can’t wait to come back.
I’m not sure how the chef remembered at which part of the course all the diners were at, since we came in at staggered times, and he wasn’t preparing the same fish for each set of diners. It was amazing for me to see him know exactly what/when to give everyone the next dish. I noticed that he torched a lot of the fish options, and I think I would prefer fewer torched fish pieces than not.
I like the decor and aesthetics of this restaurant, but I was a bit put off by a group of 3 diners who were chatting extremely loudly in their corner, in Cantonese, about their children’s school activities. I was expecting the vibe to be calm and serene, but they were being so noisy and disrespectful of the environment like they were just at a bar. The other diners were all hushed, so it was just them, but maybe this restaurant is more lenient about noise?
Still, it was a good experience and I’m glad I got to try another sushi omakase
A few menus to choose from, two dinner time slots
As such, never would I imagine one day, I would use the words ‘ disappointing, boring and sad ‘ in describing the Omakase of this once beloved establishment and even consider discontinuing my visit there?!
This was the first Japanese meal in over two months since my return from a food crawling vacation around the orient. In my mind, two full months of circumvention should provide enough of a vacuum to build back a bit of craving towards eating one of my favorite foods. Sadly, the result was one of disappointment featuring mundane, boring and repetitive offerings. The once impressive and enjoyable otsumami now features a series of one dimensional creation with almost identical, sweet and tangy, flavour profile. Soup and Chawamushi used the same ingredients as months back. Ingredients and seasoning/dressing used for the Neta were literally the same as per previous visits. A few new selections featuring bi-valves, crustaceans like Bontan or Karuma Ebi, or fish varieties like wild Scottish Ocean trout or New Zealand King Salmon…etc would offer a welcoming break to this current monotony.
On top, drastically diminishing our dining experience and enjoyment was our being told that there will be a time restriction imposed on our meal’s time allotment! This invisible pressure canopy and subsequent rush in the chef’s pacing in delivering our nigiri pieces, created a sour note and unpleasant sensation throughout the course of our meal!……even though we ended up with ample time to spare…..15+ minutes!
I am not claiming the food offered was inferior or unenjoyable. On the contrary, for the new visitors, their Omakase is one of the finest in Richmond Hill/Markham and one would get satisfaction from the well executed meal. However, for repetitive regulars like myself, I would love to see more creative varieties.
We arrived at our 8pm sitting and started off our omakase meal with the appetizer tray and it was delicious!! Then moved on to a fish soup and our sushi pieces, egg roll and dessert.
Everything from start to finish was amazing and tasty. I definitely would come back as this is one of the omakases I really enjoy in Markham.
Highly recommended.
