Xi’an Famous Foods began as a 200 square foot basement stall in the Golden Shopping Mall in Flushing, N.Y. The original location, established in late 2005, was the first restaurant to bring the little-known cuisine of Xi’an to the United States. Since then, it’s become a beloved local fast-casual chain, with locations spread across New York City, as well as locations in Boston, Philadelphia, Virginia, etc. As a family-owned business, Xi’an Famous Foods looks to reintroduce the world to the unique western Chinese cuisine of the founder’s hometown through some classic dishes: liang pi “cold-skin noodles stewed pork burgers, wide hand-pulled “biang biang” noodles, and more, all in their most authentic forms based on family recipes.
Local counter-serve chain offering Xi’an-style Chinese fare, including noodles, soups & sandwiches.

Reviews
Stop complaining about the noodles being cold when you bring them home. Just warm them up for 1 minute in the microwave or eat it in the car. It’s not a big deal, not sure why this has become a point of conversation in these reviews. Food was delicious. This is special food from Xi’an, China. Thank you for bringing this chain to the DMV. Hope to see a proper sit down restaurant soon.
谢谢!
Fast forward to now, I ordered via DoorDash after doing some research. Since it’s a shared space with other vendors, there’s no dine in option, and the parking and pickup process can be a bit confusing, as others have mentioned. But nothing you can’t figure out.
We ordered the lamb and pork noodles, cold gluten salad, pork dumplings, and pork burgers. We reheated the noodles after the car ride, which softened them slightly, but the flavor was exactly how I remembered – bold, savory, and spicy. The noodles were well ripped, with a wide, smooth surface. The gluten salad was tangy and refreshing, and the pork burgers were packed with juicy braised meat in firm bread.
The dumplings are real surprise. I usually make dumplings at home and don’t often order them out, but Xi’an Famous Foods is an exception. Their spicy and sour pork dumplings are actually regional specialties and definitely worth trying.
For drinks, I recommend the Sour Hawberry and Chrysanthemum Tea. The hawberry is fruity and refreshing, while the chrysanthemum is cooling and calming, both perfect to balance out the richness of the food.
If you’re a first-timer, I highly recommend the lamb hand ripped noodles + spicy & sour pork dumplings + sour hawberry tea.
Hope I can enjoy those perfectly chewy noodles fresh out of the pot soon! Will be on the lookout for their full service location.
Parking is difficult and very tight when busy. There is no where close to sit and eat. Also when you ask for cutlery they don’t include in your order they put it in a basket for you to grab. No napkins. Forks were grab and go and not wrapped separately. You walk in find your order in the website based on text and a locker opens with your food. Pretty straight forward interesting concept.
We ordered 3 different dumplings. These were probably our favorite. Cucumber salad was very good. We also ordered 3 different kinds of noodles. Lamb, pork, and beef. All were good though we were hoping for more. One friend who goes often to New York mentioned the noodles weren’t as good here.
For us the food wasn’t good enough to deal with the hassle of the location. If they moved though we would definitely give it another try or when we go to New York.
The sour hawberry tea was the perfect palate cleanser after the rich, spicy meal.
This location is a bit far for us, and since there’s no dine-in option, the food had to sit through a long car ride – unfortunately the noodles got a bit soggy. But I was happy to read in other reviews that the ghost kitchen setup is temporary and that they’re opening full locations closer to my home. When that happens, I’ll definitely be back to my weekly visits.
This time, we specifically came from Maryland for Xi’an Famous Food, a place we’ve wanted to try for a long time.
Xi’an Famous Food started taking orders at 11 AM, and we ordered:
⭐️[N1] Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles (孜然羊肉乾扯麵)
⭐️ [N4] Stewed Pork Hand-Ripped Noodles (臘汁肉乾扯麵)
⭐️[N9] Pork “Zha Jiang” Hand-Ripped Noodles (炸醬麵)
⭐️ [B1] Stewed Pork Burger (臘汁肉白吉饃)
⭐️ [A5] Spicy Seitan Salad (涼皮)
The order completion took around 25 minutes, and pickup was very convenient. All the food was well-packaged.
As a Xi’an noodle enthusiast who has eaten a lot of Xi’an noodles in China and Singapore, I can confidently say that Xi’an Famous Food basically met all my expectations for Xi’an cuisine.
The cumin lamb was fresh and flavorful, and the stewed pork was tender and juicy. The “白吉饃 bai ji mo” (burger bun) was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. After bringing it home, I reheated it in an air fryer using the steam-bake mode for 4 minutes, and it was still crispy and delicious.
One small suggestion: the stewed pork in my Stewed Pork Hand-Ripped Noodles was almost entirely lean meat. The flavor would be even better if a proper amount of fatty meat (even slightly lean pork belly) were added.
I hope to see more of your branches open in the DMV area in the future, and it would be even better if dine-in options were available.
As others have mentioned, the pickup and parking process can be a bit confusing if it’s your first time, and there’s no dine-in option, which might not suit everyone.
I went during a weekday lunch hour and ordered on the Four Mile Co website as I got to the parking lot. I waited 15 minutes max. The parking lot is a bit chaotic, but everyone was patient and accommodating to those who were waiting longer for food.
You get a text with a link when your food is ready, and a locker door opens with your hot food when you click the link.
I know in NYC, they recommend you eat the noodles immediately because the texture can change if you let them sit in the sauce/oil. I got the spicy lamb hand ripped noodles and ate a few bites in my car while I waited for the traffic to settle. Delicious, amazing, just like they are in NYC!
Ate the rest a few hours later when I got home, and they held up well! I was pleasantly surprised.
Also don’t sleep on the sour hawberry hibiscus tea. It’s refreshing, fruity and tart.
I really hope a storefront comes to the District!!
We ordered the spicy cumin lamb hand-ripped noodles, the spicy and sour pork and cabbage dumplings, and the cumin lamb burger, as well as two jars of spicy chili crisp for our pantries. Where we were able to ask for things to be extra spicy, we did! And it was spicy, but we would love a double extra spicy option!
Everything was wonderful, but we especially loved the noodles and the dumplings. The dumplings I have to say were my favorite I’ve ever had in the DMV, and the noodles, which I’ve had before from the Manhattan location, are as good as I remember. We’ll be back.
I can’t wait for the brick and mortar to open up so we can enjoy the noodles as nature intended – piping hot! What a great addition to the DMV Chinese food scene.
