The quality of their sashimi is one of the freshest that I know. Presentation is also nice. There’s no doubt about their food. We were so pleased with this place the first time when we were there a few years ago, we made sure to come back here this time in San Diego.

Located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter (5th and Market) Taka is a small sushi spot with a full bar. This was my first time here because whenever I walk by, the place is packed. Yesterday a buddy and myself walked by and were able to get two seats at the bar. Service was great (was fun to just order straight from the chef) and friendly, the sushi rolls were on point and made quick, the house Saki was tasty and the seaweed salad was delicious (and had the nicest presentation I’ve seen for a seaweed salad). When in the Gaslamp, Taka is a must if craving some sushi. Call ahead to see if there’s any availability or reservations.

Hands down some of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Great laid back atmosphere and very friendly/knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend getting a seat at the counter.

I took my soy mate here on a weekday evening and we walked in without a reservation. The service A+. It’s in the heart of Gaslamp downtown so the high price is for that location and not the quality of fish. I would come back if I was looking for sushi in Gaslamp again.

Really perfect dinner- casual but excellent sushi. Service excellent. We had our toddler and we sat outside and everyone had a great time. Amaebi nigiri so good, with a fun deep fry on the head!

Not a cheap sushi place for sure! Small place …. Love the bar seating directly where the prepare the food. I had very high expectations from this place (recommended by a friend) and it actually met the expectations as food quality, preparation, and taste. Why not 5 stars …. I have been in an even better one that it is still for me the #1.

Taka is solid sushi, but not exceptional. I don’t think I would go back. For the price, you would hope to be really wowed. The sashimi was great. The rolls however were really underwhelming.

It is an okay Japanese restaurant. Definitely not the best ones but it was not bad. However, I think it is a little bit overpriced. The omakase costs $168 with only three courses. And there are repeated ingredient in the courses. I wouldn’t recommend the omakase but you can try other dishes such as sushi.
