Lovely spot in Squamish and a great rec. Got the shoyu ramen, tonkotsu ramen, chicken karaage, asahi draft, and ginger beer. The shoyu broth had a slightly smoky flavor, with a heavy amount of oil and sodium. Definitely the Asahikawa ramen style! The tonkotsu was more balanced and full bodied in flavor. The karaage was fried a bit too much for me and some parts almost tasted like carbon, the outside could’ve been seasoned slightly more too although the center pieces of chicken were still juicy. The draft and locally crafted ginger beer were both delicious.

Came here to try their ramen after seeing a video saying it was the best ramen in B.C., and was pleasantly surprised by the sushi!! The Paitan shio ramen was phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. I got a few nigiri and all were phenomenal- the freshest quality fish I ever had (and I’ve traveled to japan). I highly recommend checking this place out!

Really friendly service and great food!

Loved the fact you could buy a bowl of ramen, then get a deal with adding a couple of gyoza or pieces of sushi on the side.

Gyoza were some of the best I’ve had in a while, so juicy. Tried the Asahikawa Shoyu ramen, which I enjoyed, but I think the fishy, oily taste to the broth probably wouldn’t be my favourite type of ramen broth. I’m glad I tried it though!!

The only place I found in Squamish where they serve pork. It’s well cooked, taste is legit and I had a wonderful time. The pork spicy miso ramen could use a little more meat though. Having said that the price is reasonable and the quantity makes it a wholesome experience. I would definitely visit again and try the rest of their menu.

Taka Ramen + Sushi: A Taste of Hokkaido in the Heart of Squamish

Taka Ramen + Sushi, located on Cleveland Avenue in downtown Squamish, is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic and high-quality Japanese cuisine. This spot successfully blends traditional Japanese cooking, deeply rooted in the philosophy of its founder, Executive Chef David Yuji Kite, with a modern, inviting dining experience.

The Broth is the Star

While the restaurant offers an extensive menu of sushi and small plates, the ramen is the undisputed highlight. Taka Ramen proudly descends from the Asahikawa style of Hokkaido ramen. The secret is the rich, meticulously prepared broth. Simmered for hours, the soup condenses a profound “UMAMI” flavor from a blend of pork bones, vegetables, and seafood. A noticeable touch is the roasted, flavorful Hokkaido-style lard, which serves the practical purpose of shielding the soup from cooling too quickly, ensuring every bite stays hot. The Asahikawa Shoyu (Soy sauce flavor) is often cited as a standout, delivering a complex, deeply satisfying, yet clear pork broth.

Fresh Sushi and Diverse Offerings

Beyond the ramen, the sushi selection holds its own. Reviewers frequently praise the freshness and meticulous preparation of the sushi and sashimi. The Taka Assorted Sushi and the Hokkai Don are popular choices, showcasing fresh ingredients sourced sustainably, including from the local market and the famous Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo.

Taka also earns high marks for catering to diverse dietary needs, particularly with its Vegan Ramen. This dish, featuring a completely vegetable-based broth and soy milk with miso flavor, has been called one of the best vegan ramens by customers, offering a rich and creative alternative to the traditional pork-based soups.

Atmosphere and Service

The restaurant space itself is vibrant and welcoming. It has a modern minimalist design—having once been a bank—featuring warm wood tones (like European Beech and Oak) that contrast with polished concrete floors and dark wall panels. There is both indoor seating and an inviting heated outdoor patio, which is perfect for taking in the mountain views.

Service is generally praised as friendly and attentive, contributing to the overall positive dining experience.

Final Verdict

Taka Ramen + Sushi is a culinary gem in Squamish, offering dishes crafted with care and tradition. Whether you are seeking the comforting depth of a hot bowl of authentic Asahikawa ramen, freshly assembled sushi, or excellent vegan options, Taka delivers high quality and an authentic Japanese taste. It’s a popular choice for both locals and visitors, making it a highly recommended stop on Cleveland Avenue.

Went to this restaurant for lunch, didn’t have to wait too long. The service is pretty good, they will check up from time to time with us. The food is good in general, however for spicy food is not spicy enough according to my husband my brother comment. The fried chicken is delicious. The dumping is a little too thick and not very juicy on the inside.

Taka Ramen & Sushi was busy when we went on a Friday evening. The place had a lot of take out orders going on but luckily we were able to get seated within 5 minutes. I believe there are both indoor and outdoor seating. Menu is extensive and there are many options available. Indoor seating was a bit squished. The sushi platters came out beautifully. Overall taste was ok and the restaurant is conveniently located. Free street parking is available.

Outstanding Japanese food for an affordable price. I dined here for dinner , two nights consecutively after discovering it during my stay in Squamish. I tried the ramen, the seafood rice bowl, and also a range of sushi. Everything was really good, and exceeded expectations. I highly recommend if you’re looking for quality Japanese food.

Was hesitant to eat Japanese in Squamish but glad that we tried. The sashimi was fresh, sushi rice was just right. Way better than many so-called “Japanese” restaurants in Vancouver. The star was the ramen though. Cook of the noodle was on point and the broth was so good. Went on a busy weekend night so there was a bit of a wait. But staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.
