Reviews
I was up in Peterborough with work and on my own for a few days. I fancied a curry and my research took me here.
It’s a cosy Indian restaurant, nicely modernised but in a traditional sense so that it still had that ambience at least I always hope for in this kind of eatery.
I had sheek kebabs to start, which were lush, served with onions sizzling on the platter. For my main I had tandoori chicken biryani. The chicken was so beautifully soft and tender and the seasoning of the rice delicate and complex. I couldn’t stop eating it even thought I ordered way to much food – including a garlic naan, soft and fluffy coated in a sumptuous garlic butter.
To top it all off the bill was very reasonable indeed!
I would almost travel back to Peterborough just to get a curry here!
The order- 1 naan, 1Chicken Mugalai, 1 Bhindi bharta, 1 egg fried rice, 1special fried rice.
The order was delivered quickly and on time. The portions seem generous. The special fried rice was double the price of the egg fried rice. Keeping this in mind, when I opened the rices boxes, I was bitterly disappointed to see that the only difference was the addition of a few green peas. Now I do not know about anybody else, but in my head that is not a special fried rice. Even if it is, it does in no way warrant charging double. Have a look at the pictures for comparison. They tasted very much the same too.
The Naan felt like it was a frozen naan heated up. It did not feel like a freshly made one.
The chicken Mugalai was average at best. My choice of dish maybe was wrong, but there was no wow factor for the food.
The bhindi bharta side dish was similar too. Nothing special.
The poppadoms (complimentary) appeared to be fried in old oil. I would honestly refuse these the next time I visit.
Overall it left a bitter disappointment of having ordered from here. I suppose the disappointment was more the fact that the place seemed to be rated highly . Inspite of this, I will give the benefit of doubt to the restaurant and give full stars on atmosphere and service. I will also visit the place someday and update this review if it warrants it.
The guy on the phone when you call is just so polite such a lovely person and equally the guy that brings it all to my door its the same its always a pleasure, it is a first class experience and a well deserved 5 stars, i would certainly recommend Taj Mahal in Peterborough to anyone considering it
