Great service, some of the dishes seemed a little different than we’ve had other places but were still good. There garlic naan was great!

The food and service were great. We got the spicy, it wasn’t spicy to us. More like zesty. The flavor was excellent. We are really happy Chillicothe is starting to get ethnic foods. I ordered the Taj Mahal Dam Biryani with the mutter Pulao rice, & some Peshawar Naan. Portions were very large. We will definitely return & hope others will enjoy what Taj Mahal has to offer.

Hands down THE BEST Indian cuisine I’ve had.
Ordered off the menu, glad we did. The wait for the food was slightly longer than anticipated, but it was fresh. The flavors were exciting and the spice level of my dish, Beef Vindaloo, was perfect.

The staff were courteous, personable and willing to answer every question my wife, a first timer, had.
10/10 we will be back time and again. Such a great addition to our local food scene.

Food was too notch. Very good. BUT… If you want it, call ahead and order it carry out, cause they are experiencing severe growing pains. The kitchen is very disorganized. The servers were very pleasant and apologetic, maybe they are understaffed. We waited 30 minutes until our food came, and the appetizers came out 5 minutes before the main course. Everyone there to eat seemed to have the same problem as us. If they get this major problem worked out, it will be a wonderful place to eat.

Tried some food out of my comfort zone and fell in love! First time trying lamb or an authentic curry and it was amazing. My husband loved it as well. Shahadat (waiter) was attentive and helped us pick out what he thought we would like. Food service was quick and delicious. I highly recommend going there for dinner! It’s quite a peaceful place.

Food was good but the wait was pitiful. We showed up around 5:30 and didn’t get our appetizer until well after 6pm. Dessert came out before parts of our meal, and we spent nearly two hours there in total. Someone waiting for a carry out order was waiting for about an hour for their meal, and started a loud argument in the midst of our dinner at the check out counter.

Regardless, the food was so good, and fresh. I had the Alo Motor Gobi and it was the perfect amount of spice. My date had the korma – better than I can make at home for sure.

Authentic Indian food. So many choices you won’t know where to begin. We chose to have the buffet which was very reasonably priced. Owner very friendly. Family owned. Clean atmosphere. Worth the drive.

Food was great and came out quick. What a gem of a place and it’s right there in Chillicothe! If you haven’t ate there yet you do not know what you are missing out on!

Super eager to please wait staff, they were great! I highly recommend this place. If you are unsure what to order just start with chicken curry and plain naan, you can’t go wrong with that!

Go support this local place! They are a Grubhub place and some dine one too. They are closed on Mondays.

Overall I would recommend Taj Mahal for anyone already familiar with Indian food and those new to it.

When my wife and I moved to Chillicothe from Cleveland a few years ago we found to our horror that Chillicothe did not boast a single Indian restaurant to its name and the closest could only be found in the Columbus area. Our hometown Indian restaurant where we lived in Cleveland greeted us by our first names when we walked in! So you can imagine the excitement we experienced when we heard Chillicothe would soon boast its first and only Indian restaurant.

To begin, the menu online is comprehensive and laid out well with numerous pictures to give the customer a decent idea of what their dish will look like, but the convenience fee of $1.50 turned us off to actually using the online system for placing our pickup order. I have zero issue calling in our order, so that’s what I did and no convenience fee was added. You know it’s authentic when you have a hard time understanding the employee/owner who takes your order over the phone! We kept it simple for our first time eating there, so we ordered some staples of Indian food, butter chicken and Saag Paneer. My butter chicken had a great flavor, the sauce was thick and hearty and went well over my rice, although the chicken pieces could have been cut smaller to marinate more fully in the sauce. My wife’s saag paneer also had a good flavor, but could stand to be a little thicker. The samosas were good with chutney provided and the two types of naan we ordered were not over baked like is often the case.

There were a few things, though, that we wished were better.

First, rice is cheap, but for each entrée we were only given a tiny Styrofoam container of rice the size of a medium-sized hamburger. That was just far too little for my wife and I. I actually did not have anywhere near enough rice for my meal and had to make some more of my own. That should not be needed. This small amount was far from the norm for other places in our experience. And typically, if you eat in at an Indian restaurant, they will give you as much rice as you ask for for free. I don’t know if that translates to a pickup order, however.

Second, we’ve been to many, many Indian restaurants in Cleveland and Columbus over the years and the prices at Taj Mahal were perhaps a $1-2 more per dish than expected. I suppose they lack competition so maybe it is actually right for the market. Since many Chillicotheans are experiencing Indian for the first time, however, making it more affordable for first timers who might be reluctant to try something new seems like a good idea.

Third, there were issues with the spice level of our food. Taj Mahal has a mild to medium to hot to very hot spice scale. I ordered my butter chicken to be at a hot level of spiciness. I’m not sure if I got the white/non-Indian ‘you can’t handle true Indian hot and we’re going to lower it for your own good’ spice level, but it was extremely mild to me and my wife agreed. She ordered a medium spice level for her dish and it had little to no spiciness at all as well. The spiciness of an Indian dish is a big part of the taste, rich flavor and experience and that was totally missing. This could very well be a one-off mistake, but we’re hoping that as the restaurant settles in that will change.

Overall, we enjoyed our food at Taj Mahal and will likely order from them again. We’re mostly a pick-up type of family, but hope to have a chance to eat-in sometime soon. As a Chillicothe area resident I welcome them to town and wish them great success in the years to come.

Update: Ordered from them again, but this time specified their highest spice level, very hot, for both entrees, which is not something we normally choose. Again, it was like there was no spiciness at all! We also said the amount of white basmati rice per entree was too small. At $2.49 for this extra rice we thought it’d be pretty sizeable, no, it was the exact same small container that came with the entrees. Maybe in a few months they’ll get it right.
