So happy to have this new spot in the neighborhood! It is family-owned & operated with welcoming & kind service.
We started with the meat samosas, which were perfectly crispy and filled with delicious, well seasoned ground chicken. For the main course, the Chicken Tikka Masala and Beef Curry were both rich, authentic, and incredibly flavorful. (You do need to ask for traditional spicy if you want your meal the most authentic way) I think that is a nice option to have to appeal to different preferences.
Really glad we tried the Strawberry & Mango Lassis. They are so tasty & honestly some of the best ‘smoothies’ I’ve had. I already plan on placing a to go order for another one tomorrow. It’s clear they take pride in serving fresh, homemade meals. Plus, they’re open until midnight, which is a huge bonus for late night cravings. Highly recommend supporting this wonderful local business!

We went to Taj Indian Restaurant about an hour after they opened for the first time. The space is clean and inviting. The buffet is small, but everything we tried was flavorful. The butter chicken was excellent. The tandoori chicken was good, though it wasn’t refilled while we were there. We also had to ask three times for our naan before it arrived.
It’s a soft opening, so we’re giving them the benefit of the doubt. With more staff training and better preparation for busy times, this has the potential to become a strong addition to the local restaurant scene.

Taj Indian Restaurant is a fantastic new addition to Kankakee County! We ordered the chicken tikka masala, veggie samosas, aloo tikki, and paneer pakora and everything was incredible. The flavors were rich, fresh, and perfectly spiced. And the mint chutney and sweet tamarind sauce are absolutely addictive. So excited to have authentic Indian food here. We’ll definitely be back!

Just tried they’re luncheon buffet today. They’ve been open only three days. They were packed when I walked in. But a table opened up quickly. I found the food good, not strongly spiced but still flavorful and good. They kept the buffet well stocked and fresh. I tried the curry. butter chicken, and a lamb curry. Also I enjoyed the vegetable dish. I was hoping for aloo gobi but the veggies they had were very tasty.
Today was only their third day open, they were very busy. I didn’t look at the full menu, but I will next trip.

Went to Taj Indian Restaurant to try out their buffet on opening day, and it did not disappoint! Not the largest Indian buffet I have ever been to, but had a good variety of dishes and everything was tasty. The standouts for me were the Goat Curry and the Daal. As an added bonus Masala Chai and Mango Lassi are included as part of the Buffet! Another bonus was they don’t have Naan on the buffet, they make it fresh to order for you. You can get plain or garlic Naan, of course I got garlic and it was excellent. If you like Indian food or are curious about it don’t sleep on this place. I liked it so much I got Samosas to go to have for Dinner .

In the interest of seeing this place succeed I would like to be completely honest with my thoughts. I am not Indian but I like to think I know what good Indian food tastes like.
Service was fine. Restaurant looks fine. I ordered takeout. Our food was not good. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Paneer Makhani. The quality of the raw ingredients is high but the sauce has no depth of flavor and is sickeningly sweet. My brother and I compared it to Chef Boyardee or Spaghettio’s sauce. They desperately need to work on how they make the sauce. Indian curry should not be this sweet, it should have spices in it — there is a difference between “spicy (hot)” and “spicy (seasoned)” — and it feels as though the proprietors chose to avoid any version of “spicy” out of fear it would scare the folks of Kankakee county away, and so they poured gallons of table sugar into the recipe instead.
We also had cheese naan and gulab jamun. Both were good. My rule with this place going forward, unless they heavily revamp, will be to avoid anything with curry involved.

I am so thankful Sunny made the move to open this restaurant in our community. There are a ton of vegetable-based options for my vegan self! I almost got overwhelmed with all of the options! There is definitely something on the menu for everyone!

I grew up eating Indian food in Chicago suburbs, so I was very excited when I heard we were finally getting one in Bourbonnais. We ordered takeout and it did not disappoint. Butter chicken and tikka masala were very tasty and a lot of meat in each order. 18.99 seems steep but it comes with rice which is not common for most Indian restaurants, so keep that in mind. The order was also ready within 30 minutes. The samosas were not as spicy as they usually are, but I didn’t mind that. The naan was great too! Can’t wait to dine in and check out the buffet!

So glad we have an Indian spot out here now. The palak paneer and garlic cheese naan were excellent. The butter chicken was a little sweeter than I’m used to but still very good. The lamb vindaloo was good but could’ve been spicier. But it was their grand opening night and it was chaotic, so I imagine it was chaos in the kitchen also. They have a lunch buffet every day so we’ll try that next time. Expect a wait, though. It was about an hour before we got served. But again, opening night so it might be different in the future.
