Don’t waste your time, money and taste buds. We were very disappointed with everything we bought. The Moo Shoo Pork and Pork Fried Rice were practically devoid of Pork. We ate some and threw the rest in the garbage. If you want good Chinese food, go to the Tea House in Crozet. We would have gone there but it’s closed on Monday. Decided to try an alternative and we were most disappointed.

Best Chinese in C’ville. Earlier in the afternoon I called to see if they offered a vegan soup. Later after I ordered our meal (including a different soup) online I received a phone call asking if I wanted this soup in a vegan version. I was impressed that they remembered my call and verified that I also wanted this soup vegan. The meal was excellent. The only thing I will ask next time is to cook the veggies al dente. We’ll be back.

Great take out. Just had Shrimp and Vegtables that was wonderful. Plentiful shrimp, large and cooked to perfection, vegtables fresh and delicious. If you’re in the mood for Chinese food, this is best we found. Been a patron for several years, never disappointed.

This is a family owned restaurant. I ordered the Double Willow Chicken, Hunan Chicken, and 2 pork egg rolls today. The portions were generous, delicious, and a good value for the money. The exterior of the restaurant is not up to date or trendy, but don’t judge a book by its cover.

The only good thing about this place is that it’s open later than other options. The food is low quality, over-sauced, and lacks flavor. I’ll stick to Peter Chang’s from now on.

I have been coming to this restaurant since 1986, and it’s always been one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in town. Their Kung Pao Chicken is outstanding, and I’d love to have the recipe for their Hot and Sour soup! The owner is incredibly friendly, and their food is always fresh. It was not uncommon (pre-COVID) to walk in for dining and see someone at the small table sorting through fresh green beans. I’m proud to support this small business, and it will be a sad day when the owner steps away from this gem of a restaurant. It’s an Ivy Road landmark!

You don’t get your money’s worth at this place. I ordered two dishes that didn’t include ingredients listed in their menu. The Buddha’s delight was mainly just broccoli and cabbage. I didn’t any baby corn or chestnuts, barely any snap peas, carrots, or bamboo shoots. I also wanted tofu added. Didn’t see any. The General Tso’s had no vegetables in it at all. Just two pieces of broccoli. That was $14! The broccoli also tasted soapy in both dishes. Very unhappy with my order. Will not be coming back here. Low quality

I’ve never felt compelled to review cheap Asian food before. We know what we’re getting into when we order from these places. So my expectations were low. But the food at Taiwan Garden was so profoundly bad that I felt the need to leave this review. It was worse than bland. The chicken, broccoli, and rice was salted to the point of near-inedibleness. The soup was devoid of flavor and the noodles/pork were clearly old. The dumplings were salty too and lacking in any other flavor.

I’ve been a customer for 10+ years. They are a great locally owned business and treat you like family. It’s standard Chinese takeout, but the vegetables are always fresh and crisp, and the staff is always overly nice. It is my go-to place for Chinese takeout in Charlottesville, you won’t find a better value or friendlier business owner around UVA.

Based on the food alone, I would not go back. It is WAY bland. However, my grievance is more with the unprofessional way I was treated. We ordered two dinner specials over the phone, which was hard to start with because of the language barrier. On top of that, the menu was not clear what came with the meals. Even looking at it now, I’m fairly certain the sides we ordered were included with the meals; regardless, when we picked up our food, we were charged for our soup as if it were an extra meal, which doubled our bill! I called back to figure out what had happened. The woman I spoke to asked me if I had soup–to which I answered yes–and hung up! I’ve chosen to view this whole experience as a product of language and cultural differences, with some unprofessionalism thrown in. I am not beyond wondering if I haven’t just been taken advantage of though.
