Amazing spot! The food is absolutely delicious and all so fresh and carefully crafted for some really unique and excellent flavors. Some favorite dishes were the shrimp and birria tacos, corn croquetas, squash blossom, and the braised lamb tamale but every single thing we ate was so good. For dessert the Churros were to die for. They also have the largest selection of Mezcal and the cocktails are excellent and unique. A must try spot that we’ll definitely go back to again ASAP!

Wanted to try something new in Old Town and stumbled upon this place. Save the trip, everything was overly salty. I couldn’t believe even the Ahi in the tostada, very heavy handed in the salt. The Bao buns was salty as well. Empanadas had very little yellowtail but more potato filling. The tacos we got were salty.

Amazing place! The food here is not like any other Mexican food restaurant. It has a very nice twist with their food ingredients. I promise you, you’ll tey something you havent had at another Mexican restaurant. The prices are not super high like you would think. Overall the place has awesome vibes, great service, and amazing food. Highly recommend.
Ordered the birria tamal, chicken and rabbit al pastor taco, strawberry tres leches dessert, watermelon maragarita, horchata Clara maragarita. Payed $60

Had dinner at Tahona in Old Town San Diego and did the Taste of Tahona experience — it was outstanding from start to finish. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. You can really tell how much care goes into both the food and the overall experience.

Huge shoutout to Tony, the bartender, who was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the best spicy margarita! Zach, the owner, was equally fantastic — welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about what he does. Their hospitality elevated the entire evening.

If you’re looking for an elevated dining and mezcal experience in Old Town, Tahona is a must. Can’t wait to come back!

I love Tahona Bar! Their food and cocktails are so unique and they use such high-quality ingredients. I’m obsessed with their corn croquettes. They also do group events— I had my wedding welcome party/post-rehearsal dinner here and it was amazing! They were willing to customize our menu to our preferences, and it was super easy to plan. We rented out the restaurant for about 50 people, and we just had to meet a food and drink minimum, so we had an open bar and buffet-style full dinner service. The manager Zach and the staff were so friendly and attentive! All of our guests loved the space and the food and drink! It was also the perfect size for our group. Highly recommend doing events here, or just coming for drinks or dinner!

The best Mexican restaurant I have been to in SD. The shallots were the highlight, an amazing explosion of flavors. The menu is not your typical Mexican food but it was interesting. Everything I had was delicious, including the drinks. The service was also great.

As an LA native, I have had Mexican food more times than I can count. This time was hands down one of my favorite. Their Birria Tacos are to die for and the atmosphere is very fun and cool. While Old town is a bit of a tourist trap, this restaurant is a diamond in the rough.

The food here is good but way over priced due to being in a tourist area.
We got seated outside which was nice but very sunny. They need to invest in umbrellas for sunny San Diego. They had tons of heaters but zero shade.

We ordered:

-Chips and salsa – came with red and green salsa

-Guacamole – had lots of lime juice, we didn’t mind.

-Mole sampler – made in house, tastes like chocolate dessert, really good but didn’t come with chips. We used the chips from our salsa.

-Empanadas – had lots of fillings

-scallops – the best! I wanted more.

-Fish tacos – tasty but not worth $10 for a tiny street taco size that was finished in three bites.

For drinks I got the Jugo Sano which sounded refreshing with cucumber, basil, lime and tequila. It was not refreshing but bitter strong.
