ATL Reviews With A Bite!
As someone who’s chased down the best tacos from bustling Mexico City taquerías to hidden gems across the US, I was pleasantly surprised by Tacos El Poli in Lawrenceville – a spot that’s punching well above its suburban weight.
The handmade tasting tortillas are legitimately excellent: fresh, soft, and corn-forward with that authentic nixtamal flavor that makes everything sing. Started with the cheese dip with added chorizo, and wow – it was fantastic, rich and spicy with perfectly melted queso and chorizo that had us scraping the bowl clean.
Our sizzling fajita-style entrees arrived piping hot on cast iron skillets, just the way they should, with great char and aroma filling the table. The refried beans and rice were standout sides – creamy, well-seasoned, and far better than the usual filler.
The meats, though? A slight letdown – tended to be a bit overcooked and dry in spots, leading me to suspect they’re partially pre-cooked earlier in the shift and finished to order (a common efficiency move, but it costs chef-worthy juiciness).
Service was solid and attentive, and the contemporary vibe is spot-on: clean, modern, with a colorful and fun bar that’s stocked and inviting (perfect for those margaritas). Speaking of which, my wife and I are already planning a return for Taco Tuesday – $2 tacos and $5 margs sound like a steal.
Overall, delicious food with great value in an unexpected exurb like Lawrenceville. Nail the meat execution, and this place hits five-star territory easy. Highly recommended if you’re craving real-deal Mexican without the drive to Buford Highway.

Look, I know a lot of people who prefer Mexican food over Tex-Mex. I’m no fan of Tex-Mex and you shouldn’t be either. This place is cozy and has outstanding service. If you value flavor and authenticity this will be your new favorite restaurant. Plenty of Mezcal, Tequila and Cerveza on hand. If you want something refreshing, have an Aguas Fresca! Next time I’ll have the BIRRIA TACOS or the Pozole , but I really did enjoy my torta. I did see a few families with their kids, so this place is kid friendly and has a menu for them. Overall, it was very enjoyable, clean and I’d love to see this place open other locations. It has a great vibe and you can tell the people in the kitchen love serving GOOD food. Delicious.

The food is amazing and they take their time with each and every ingredient through each bite. I had the Burrito jumbo with steak and added the queso and salsa . It was so good ! I could only eat half of it lol. As far as the drinks I had the passion fruit margarita also good as well. I usually get tacos Togo but I was like let me dine in. They have happy hour daily 3pm to 7pm $4.99 margaritas. Cant beat that

I ordered a burrito and it was a 0 out of 10. No flavor, or no seasoning and steak wasn’t good steak. It was filled with the part of the steak you can’t really chew and eat & is really hard…not even the fat part of the steak. I’m not sure but it was lower grade steak for sure. The rice was burned and not edible at all. The burrito was OVER LOADED with very largely cut green peppers. No burrito needs that many peppers. Normally I don’t leave bad reviews but this restaurant has potential so hopefully they read this and fix some changes. The restaurant was empty when I came by. I only came here to try something new.

This will definitely be our new favorite Mexican spot in the neighborhood. The food was excellent, the service was 10/10 and the most reasonable prices I have seen in a very long time. This is a small place, very nicely decorated with a great, chilled atmosphere. Nice music, but not so loud you can’t talk to the people you are eating with. Definitely give them a try.

Being born and raised in Mexico and now residing near Chicago Illinois, Little Village Lao known as Little Mexico, I’m always looking for authentic Mexican food when I travel. I’m in town to see my boyfriend nd asked him for a good authentic Mexican restaurant. He’s Panamanian and doesn’t really eat Mexican food, I know, how is he alive lol jk. I went on google and searched, read reviews and found Tacos El Poli, as usual I was right. I’m able to tell not by the reviews but by the pictures and the menu, and the pictures here didn’t do it justice. Service was excellent, our waiter was super nice. As we were ordering, he mentioned tortillas were hand made!! YESSSS!!! I definitely recommend this place and will for sure come every time im in town. Even my boyfriend who las had Mexican food five years ago like the food. Thanks Tacos El Poli. We had tacos, because it’s what I was craving, they had quesadilla de flor de calabaza which was delish and grilled peppers and grilled cactus. Made me feel like I was in Mexico or back home in little village where they have so many authentic Mexican food restaurants.

Tacos are bomb! But the esquite corn isn’t authentic, comes like soup as they leave the corn water in the small bowl it comes in which is weird. Its Not served dry and mixed in mayo + other ingredients. Lol they do it a different way. But will be back for the Tacos! Servers are nice, patient and understanding.

We had an amazing meal here. My hubby had flautas pork and chicken. Full salad on top and the flavor was fabulous. Also too much to eat. I had individual taco. I am guessing nothing is bad here. They need 10 stars!!!!
