Went in to get a couple burritos and taquitos for my family and they charged me the wrong amount then couldn’t figure out how to charge me the rest of the amount She said she was going to give me the $.63 back never did. Because I couldn’t figure out how to just do a $10 even so she had to charge me $10.63. Food was very greasy the rice and beans were great. Just overall Disappointed.

This gem has been serving the community for nearly thirty years! Our family discovered the McHenry Tacos el Norte years ago after frequenting the Lake Zurich and Algonquin (now closed) locations. We’ve explored several other Mexican restaurants in the area, but none compare or even come close this McHenry staple. The food is delicious, made fresh, and fast. Perfect for a lunch break, and even better for dinner. While the food is wonderfully satisfying, it’s the service that adds that special touch. After dining in, it will seem like Alma is kindly asking, “Everything is ok”, but what I realized after observing her interactions with all their patrons for the past several years, she’s telling you, everything is ok. Comfort food at its finest. They just added birria tacos, and they are amazing!

Better than average Mexican restaurant for the area. Not amazing but good. The chorizo flautas, pork tamales and chicken enchiladas were good. Best tamales I’ve bought at a restaurant or store in a long time. Nice smokey flavor.

We ordered some birria taco dinners with horchata, and the total was $62 which we thought was a bit expensive to begin with but didn’t question it, and thought it would be worth it at least, but it was not. My birria tacos were a bit burnt and the beans were not the best either and when I wanted to finish the consome it tasted like it was about to go bad and my husband mentioned that he saw the cook reheat it in the microwave. So very disappointed to say the least of how much we paid for a pretty gross dinner that I couldn’t even finish.

Love this place for having lunch! The staff is really friendly and the food is great. The atmosphere and music is authentic and I feel at home here.
My favorite fish is the Torta Cubana and I’m proud I’m among the few of my friends who can finish it all in one sitting. Some people would find it to be a bit oily though so be warned. We tried the shrimp taco too and it was great as well.
I recommend getting the Jarritos instead of Coke products as they’re like fizzed juices which is a very different feeling. My favorite would be the Apple Jarritos.

I was there on 7/23 around 6:30pm. First time there. Everything was good except , I saw an employee the young lady eating out a can behind the counter , okay that’s fine. But then I saw her coworker taste from the can with his finger. He put his finger in it licked his finger and didn’t wash his hands. Then proceeded to touch a customers drink and handle all the other items. The girl did the same thing with her finger when she was finished. Licked her finger and proceed to touch everything else. That’s fine they do that but they should definitely wash their hands after and not touch peoples food and equipment.
